Ok so mabe we can make it so you can follow your torps, it's a bummer when you drop torps and die, then score hits, you get no points, (no big deal) but you don't even get to see the stuff blow up.
-
torpedo cam!
-
AW used to have the "Bomb Ride" where you rode the bomb to the ground... Maybe we could have the "Torp Swim" where you ride the Torp to the target :lol
-
bomb rides and torp cruises would be cool :)

I say +1 and include troops in that.
If you get killed when you have ords or troops dropping the camera should switch to the leading troop or last bomb. As each troop enters map room have the camera stay until all troops are in. if trooper died, it will switch to next in line until all are dead.
The reason to follow the last bomb would be to see the effect of your other hits and see your last one slam into their hanger with a 1-2 sec delay before returning to tower.
At all times have the option to hit the spacebar to return to the tower(when not in text window).
There also needs to be a option to turn this feature off. (on by default)

+1 on torp cam because I would like to have some way to determine which way to correct my aim on the next run.
-
+1 on torp cam so you can judge when it's safe to re-up (torps, like troops, disappear if you re-up- seeing that they have no hope of hitting the target saves you the time of waiting in the tower and hoping).

For that reason alone I am against it unless it was just for the TA like the lead computing gun site.

:headscratch:
So they need to sit in the tower guessing if they are on track or if the torps have missed? Torp runs in MA are 95% death for anyone who tries to close with the CV. Training in the TA does not take into account people turning the boat.
It would be a nail biter to see your torps tracking to hit the CV only to see it start to swing away... and your fish passes just forward. That is more entertaining then watching the clock on the wall of the tower.

aiming torpedoes is so impossible unless you drop it on the cruisers deck that giving a tool for torp dudes to improve their aiming wouldn't be such a big deal IMO
-
i like the idea simply because i would like to see the ship go down
as for those who struggle to aim with torps best way to learn how to use them
up off a friendly carrier and do torp runs off it
you don't get shot.. you can see the torps hit or miss
*but as mentioned above 95% death rate if not higher*
i have probably sank around 100-120 cv's with torps... came out alive 3 times once in a b5... of all things

Um... Has no one ever read the write-up for torpedo runs that give you consistant hits with no damage to you?
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/torpedoes/torpedoes.htm (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/torpedoes/torpedoes.htm)
This does work pretty darn well...
However back to the point of the wish WEEEE I'm RIDING A TORP! ;D

that is a great guide... but does not mention how you avoid all guns being manned for its not the Ak that generally kills you but a 5" radio proximity fuse anti air shell controlled by a player

You forgot something, the sight of the hit that may very well be what sinks her. :x

You seem to have forgetten 2 things, providing folks pay enough attention; 1) People turning the CV (which doesn't happen as often against a torpedo run as one would expect), and the most important thing, 2) People in the Twin 5" guns. Now, unless the opposing side is brain dead (which happens now and again :)), if you follow that write up, you'll have been smoked before you even reach the drop point. They will spot you forever ago and be waiting. And it's very easy to pick someone off on the deck, well outside of auto-ack range with the 5" guns. :devil
EDIT: Dang it stabby, you beat me to it. :bhead

+1 Torp runs are hard to survive, but they basically guarantee engagement so they should be encouraged. Its hard to be successful so getting to see what happens after your plane or PT is gone would be a nice addition. I usually use a JU88 formation, drop the first 3 as soon as auto ack starts shooting and hold the others until I'm almost point blank. I usually die so I have to sit in the tower watching the buffer to see if I hit anything.

:airplane: Would be kinda nice if you could see your torps running in the water, but, guess that is asking to much!

+1, as an arena setting. I don't think this really has a place in the MA, but would be an invaluable practice tool offline or in the TA.
-
I agree that a torp cam would be awesome.
I killed around 60 cv and even got a few "cv and cruiser package deal" last tour.
It's dead simple once you drop torps, get into the 40mm gun and watch the torps behind you to figure out how fast they travel.
Once you know that and the speed of the cv, it's simple.
This is what a "two-fer" looks like.

How about this: Instead of watching the torpedoes run in real time, you can watch them in the film viewer.
In real life, it would be hard to watch torpedoes from an airplane, unless you were flying over the torpedoes, or you had the older version that left a very visible wake. But if you could watch it in the film viewer, you could use it as a training aid, without taking away from the attempt at realism built into the game. In the film viewer, I can watch the fight from the perspective of the enemy plane I am shooting at, so I can see how badly I am missing. We could have something similar for torpedoes.
-
There are the game aspects to consider. Watching your torps head towards, and once in a blue moon hit, your target is entertainment worth $14.95/mo. Sitting in the tower doing exactly nothing whatsoever for many minutes while you hope your torps are going to hit something: not so much.

very poor statement and argument while its not "real" its not taking anything away from the realism its just like going external in bombers...if u wanted to argue something that's "unreal" is the fact all guns start shooting you instantly as well as radio proximity fuses(the 5" AA shells) were not introduced till late 1943 if i recall right so very few cv's would've had them so for the sake of "realism" its all there... ur just watching it from a dif angle
oh and also.... no CV would ever operate with arms/aircraft lift down another realism aspect for you(referring to the lift on the left side of CV)
-
One reason I'd really love to have the torpedo cam, at least in the film viewer, is because I accomplished some obscure historical achievement having to do with sinking 2 ships with a single torpedo.
I can't imagine how that could happen, so I would love to see how I did it.
As for the delay on waiting if you hit something, Perhaps excluding air dropped torpedoes from the 'disappear when re-up' rule. I can think of very few times when that could be abused.
