10thmd asked me to skin this razorback Thunderbolt as it was flown by his great uncle Colonel Boone, who was related to Daniel Boone of the Alamo fame. The aircraft is a P-47D-21 of the 333rd FS, 318th FG for which our D-11 is considered an acceptable substitute. After a spell guarding Hawaii, the 333rd moved to Saipan on an aircraft carrier where they attacked targets on Guam and Tinian.

Cool!

Good looking skin.
A quick trip down memory lane, Brother Boone was famous for being a Tennessean. A member of Congress, he ran for the US Senate and upon learning of his defeat he told his naysayers "they could go to H***, he was going to Texas!" And thus, the Alamo beckoned.
Paul Harvey's "The rest of the story..."
boo

Here's a super high res photo I have in my collection of that plane, taken earlier I'd guess from the OD vertical stab. I'm curious if you found a copy of this photo during your research?
Great skin, as always.

10thmd supplied me B&W photos of both sides of the front of the aircraft, plus the serial number and the link to the colour shot above, but I wasn't able to find anything on the back half of the plane. Thanks for the photo Cactus, I'll alter the skin to match it.

Here is the skin altered to match Cactus' photo:

Lovely.

Great skin, looking at the photo and the skin, I can wait until HTC get round to animating the cowl flaps
-
Having the cowl and radiator flaps work visualy will be awesome.
-
Animated cowl flaps would be nice I agree. The AH P-47s are fairly old now and don't have the cowl flaps defined in 3D like on a lot of newer plane shapes, they are just painted onto the sides of the fuselage.

If anyone has any additional Info on the Aircraft it would be greatly appreciated. My uncle also named Dan Boone died in 1995 during an aerial bald Eagle counting over the Sam Rayburn area. He never got to tell me about his father’s involvement in WW2. His family got all of the Books and items relating to it after his death and it took a long time for my aunt to even get the black and white photos that I gave Fencer and Greebo. I pm'ed Gupppy35 about it but I'm not sure if he got it, maybe somebody can givve him a nudge.

Looks like we'll be adding 'Dan'l Boone Night' to the April Fools and Halloween costume parties.
Real nice work.
-
In that case I look forward to flying this beast April 1st :devil
-
Hopefully it will be available by April :pray
-
I'll submit it tomorrow and HTC usually go through the submitted skins at the beginning of each tour. So unless they delay the next batch for some reason we might see Dan'l Boone in the MA early in February.

Looks even better now. :lol Wow keep em comin Greebs!! :salute
