Title: Make TT base uncapturable?
Post by: atlau on January 15, 2014, 05:07:02 PM
So logged on today and all of TT was taken by bish. Here's a thought. Why not give each country an uncapturable base at TT? Would allow people to still get a quick furball or fight in and I don't think would really hurt the base capture / map win portion of the game.

This has been asked for ever since I started playing in 2007.  I don't think it will ever happen, but I sort of agree with you.

Not even ALL the TT bases, just the airfields, so that you can still have a decent chance at taking the island back.

Yeah that's what I meant... a single uncapturable base.

make 1 base for each side a zone base, that would stop that in a hurry :rofl

I think a similar idea is equally valid for folks that want to do air combat only. Simple 3-base area off in the corner of every map, no GV spawns, not capturable, nothing damagable other than perhaps ack. Just a place for furballers to go. Same idea as a TT, but for fighters.

But then I guess if you get all these dedicated areas in place, are you going to have enough people engaged in the broader "game"...supporting the base taking, etc? Probably not, hence why it doesn't gain much traction.

Great idea Vortex. Off map. . . let's see. Maybe you can call it the DA?

Well the idea, like the OP's, is to keep everyone in the same arena, and in my case, promote the furball. That's not what the DA does. Years of exposure to these games has tought me one thing...when you start pealing things off into other arenas, it rarely works. But as I noted upthread, I think there's bigger hurdles to either idea anyway.

Zone bases aren't that important are they?? I mean....no one would ever switch sides to protect it while their squad mates are on the other country?? Lol

Get rid of tank town and any other spot on the map where GV's can sanctuary from the rest of the game.  Sick of the GV's killing the game.

Yeah, because its GV's killing the game, and not all the crap flying, repetitive hording, NOE sneaks, picking, vulching, HO'ing, alt-monkeying, BnZ-running, tarding play style thats killing the game.

No, couldn't be that, because its the GV's that are doing it .

Congrats Meg, you've uttered the dumbest phrase in AH history.

I would agree with FF's statement, GVing is a time consumer, and its players are more naturally inclined to avoid combat or death, death is the life blood of a combat sim, if your not in the process of dying or killing its hurting the game.

First, who is FF?

Second, GV'ing has fewer kills/hr, true, but that doesn't mean that every second spent without firing your gun is a waste. The maneuvering simply takes longer.

Third, many of the tankers wouldn't even have accounts if there weren't tanks to play in. So GV'ing really takes VERY few people away from flying a plane.

It directly impacts you fly-boys minimally, if at all. In fact, I would argue that all the tards trying to bomb GV's takes more people away from aerial combat than every other aspect of GV's do combined.

Having given GVers a much closer examination in the last few months almost exclusively flying a Stuka and hanging out at spawns etc, the deal is this most GVers want to kill another GVer with as little chance of them dying as possible, not only that, they will sit around camping for extreme lengths of time, the vast majority of GV gameplay consists of 8 - 10 guys sitting around a spawn and one deluded soul spawing in again and again. I see this at least 2 3 times in the space of a night, if I switch country and go the other spawn...hey presto 4 to 5 guys camping it and every 5 minutes someone spawns in, these guys are not participating in combat, to me combat should be a situation were you should live by merit of your skill, otherwise whats the point, its simply text on a screen.

I agree completely with the bombers, but only because most carpet bomb in a gamey fashion, there is obviously skill to be had in bombing but simply dumping everything in low level rinse and repeat is gamey. Expecting to not get bombed in an airplane game is frankly delusional.

I would have a GV spawn set up like some kind of maze as cover for them spawning in with multiple exits, But I think you would find GVs much less appealing if there was a 50 50 chance to be killed.

There usually is about a 50/50 chance of being killed by another tank in an actual GV battle (I don't consider spawn camping as combat, and personally would love to do away with such crap. And personally, I enjoy it the most.

You also must recognize that its usually the same 8-10 guys camping the spawn, and that they don't represent the majority of players who GV.
