Title: Turtle Beach X12 Headset Audio Problems
Post by: XxDaSTaRxx on January 20, 2014, 12:31:53 PM
I can use the microphone on my new X12 headset, but cannot get audio to the headphones. Not just AH, every program. Everything is set up right, just as the manual says to set it up. Any ideas on how to get audio to it?

I would check in windows control panel, under sounds and be sure that windows recognizes the headset.

You may need a specific driver but since you failed to tell us what OS you are using I'm only guessing.

I would supply a copy of your DxDiag to help with this otherwise again it will mostly be guess work with out it.

Look in Options->Game Sounds and make sure the headset is chosen for the output device.  It should be set to whatever it is in Windows.

Is the USB connection getting sufficient power to the headphones.  IIRC, the X12 requires a USB port for power and a normal 3.5mm plug that connects to your sound card.  I'd make sure the headset is getting sufficient power, if it is then I would check your Windows settings.  Make sure that you have your mic unmuted in Windows and then run the microphone set up wizard in Windows.  This will walk you through setting up your mic and will also let you know if your mic is working or not.

The problem is the audio not the microphone.

I did some more looking around, and when I try to calibrate the audio, I just get a weird fuzzy scratchy noise. But it seems to be keeping up with audio. When audio should be playing, that's the noise I get.

My OS is Windows 8. I need to know what you need from DxDiag. The whole report or select parts. The whole report is like 5 pages long of what I'm guessing is useless information for what we need here.

I'm just stumped. Not too happy about spending $60 on a faulty headset either.  :bhead

From that I'm going to assume that it's the onboard sound card on your motherboard.  Do you get sound without the headphones connected?  Does the microphone work?  If you're running Windows 7, go to Control Panel -> Sounds and what are the playback devices listed?

If you have a vidcard that has sound,an HDMI output would be a good clue, besure thats not being used as  the sound source.

Make sure your computer has the native sound card drivers installed and not using the default Microsoft sound driver (look for the vender supplier in the sound card section of the DXDIAG output).

Make sure you have disabled any HDMI (video card) sound devices, if you do not need them.  You only need them if you are connecting to a television, using an HDMI port and you want the sound to play from the television speakers.  Leaving this device active, when it is not needed WILL cause problems.

If DXDIAG is not showing your connected headset, then there is something wrong at the Windows level, which must be corrected before it is going to function with a DirectX application, such as Aces High.

Question one: Yes. Question two: Yes.

Playback devices:

1) Speakers
2) AMD HDMI Output
3) Untitled device (VIA High Definition Audio is put under the untitled device title)

Those HDMI sound drivers are causing problems all over the place.  AMD or NVidia does not matter.
