I would like to see Fire extinguishers on multi engine bombers.
If an engine catches fire I have seconds to shut it down before I blow up. :x
I am in a B17 with a ten man crew and I need to man the guns, fly the plane, and shut down that engine. :joystick:
Give me a key that I can ignite the fire extingusihers bottles in that engine so I can keep flying.
:airplane:
It will make it harder to take me down yes but come on its a B17 you fighter jocks can't take down a B17???

There are no engine fires in AH. Only fuel tanks burn.

The fire does not come from the engine. Usually it comes from the fuel line feeding into the engine. Extinguishing the Engine would have no effect, unless you were to shut down the fuel line. Sometimes in the B-17G the fuselage just catches on fire due to the Auxiliary fuel line/tank.

Ok Ok I got it. Turn off the fuel, shut down the oil pump, feather the prop and open the engine cowls, and turn of the ignition. Fly home.

If you want to do all that manually, and accept that if you just can't do it fast enough, that your wing is coming off, then I'd be fine with that.

Well there you go then....Wishing for Fires in engines...cause that did happen in real life...so lets have the ability to shoot an engine up..and have it catch on fire...with the ability to extinguish it

I'm gonna be the odd man out an the only one to +1 this :aok

If you can do that in the mere 3 seconds you have before your wing is gone I'll mail you a batch of cookies. :D

You need the oil pump to feather, and leave the cowl flaps closed -- less drag and you don't want to feed the fire more O2.

+1 I like the idea... Would have a lot of fun nursing a b17 home. Seems like 90% of time you just get shot down when hit. Would love more damage modeling like this... not that I fly bombers.... but ... maybe.... I would

This is AH. Unfortunately there is no such thing as check list procedures
-
Maybe you could dive to put out the fire like in that other online flightsim which won't be mentioned

I'm curious , of real pilots who fly AH, how many wish we had check list procedures?
I am not trying to slight you, this request just made me think of how I really don't enjoy running long check lists in real life.
I wish, as I would think many others do, that I could just get in real airplanes , push 1 button and go fly.

I like the idea, to add some realism :aok
but I suppose that many are against me :(

If we wanted to go FULL realism...have everyone start on w/e airfield they choose....but they start on foot...with that little guy with this .45 and have them run to either hanger to choose that vehicle, or bomber, or fighter, then have them taxi it all the way to runway like you can now...same with landing..they land...park plane OFF of runway...these guys just didnt leave planes on runway...make it hard for the other planes wanting to land...but thats if we were going for FULL realism right? :joystick:

Yeah I don't need long checklists either BUT some real-life like procedures would be okay
….say having to take steps to shutdown and feather an engine on multi-engine airplanes….would reward those who practice a bit, make it tougher for those who don't.
...if engine fires were modeled then having to take steps in correct order to secure the engine and extinguish the fire.
Not button pushing for the sake of button pushing.

And if the aircraft is damaged, you have to wait until it is repaired until you can fly in actual time.
"oh you broke this? It will be here in a week"

While not a real pilot I play IL2: Cliffs of Dover and as much as I enjoy feeling like I'm flying a real Emil/Spitfire/Hurricane I get tired of (And sometimes frustrated with) all the engine management. Especially when I am trying to keep it all going using keyboard shortcuts without TrackIR and a full simulated cockpit. I think Aces High nicely balances realism with ease of use. That being said I think I could learn to tolerate checklists if it meant flying real aircraft instead of pixels.
On a totally unrelated note, could you fix the magneto switch in the 109 cockpit? They're switched off and I am very confused as to how my engine is still running without them. :salute
-
Yes Hitech, would love some more realism. I know some people have gone else where because of the lack of it!

With any level of proficiency in a particular aircraft there will be time based on your experience that starting the aircraft and running the checks are intuitive and easy. I think having the quick start feature represents that.
To a non pilot with no first hand experience in operating an airplane I can see the appeal and that feeling of immersing yourself in it. Your first few times of checking, verifying, doing and all the minutia might feel like immersion and interesting but once you get a handle on the keystrokes you'll develop mind and muscle memory which will take that immersion feeling away rather quickly before it becomes routine. You'll end up pushing the buttons as quick as you can because you want to actually get started and flying and wishing you had a quick start function.
When you sit a new crew down in a simulator during initial training in a jet they've never flown it can take an hour or more just to power the thing up and run through the checks from cold and dark to ready to fly. When you get on the line and you spend 6 minutes or less from closing the door to being ready for takeoff that hour seems silly. You'll develop a cadence, a flow and use the checklist as a done list and it really doesn't take long to accomplish everything you need to do. The same will happen with a gamer however with no real systems failures there isn't much reason to do all the checks since what you're checking is to make sure things are working...and they are.

Could you plz answer OP ?
Thanks.

In the old AH one used to "walk" from the tower over to the plane on the runway and climb in.

real procedures.. would be counter productive
half the people in this game cant take off without autotakeoff..
