Title: RedTop's Bass Boat project....
Post by: RedTop on January 27, 2014, 06:35:28 PM
As most of you know I bass fish a bunch....This winter I decided to do some upgrades and work on my boat. With my Dads passing recently I've found this helps keep my mind occupied... If the dang weather will just get right I can finish...  :) Here's a few pics from the first part....

Re-carpeting.... This is what it looked like before I started....

Looking good!

I've undertaken a boat project for this winter too.  I don't need to re-do the carpeting on mine, but I've swapped boats and need to re-do all of the electronics.

You buying new? Or just redoing the ones you had? I have the Humminbird 1197c SI and the 997c SI for my fish finders...and a Lowrance LMS520 I use for GPS.

Lowrance has some nice touch screens now...and Humminbird came out with the 360 imaging.

Definitely not new, lol.

I had an '84 Chris Craft Skorpion 186, with a 236hp V8 in it, that's bigger than I wanted.  My "second" job is as a ranger at a Boy Scout camp.  They were in need of a boat they could use for skiing, and I was willing to swap it for a 1989 Lund Stinger 1600 with a 40hp Mercury outboard (plus some cash).

The CC is water-worthy as it stands, so I don't have to do anything with it, but the Lund has been sitting for quite some time.  The boat is in great condition, but the wiring is pretty ugly.

I'm re-doing the majority of it, and moving my fish finders, riggers, etc., over to the Lund.  Hopefully I'll have it ready to go for when the water isn't stiff anymore.

When you said "Bass boat" I thought you meant the instrument.

Nice looking boat though.

Nice boat!

I would kill for a dual console when I'm riding shotgun on those 35 degree 60 mph runs up the lake.

Nice boat!

My boat adventures have all been put on hold now.  A much more exciting project came up (one that will hopefully make money and not be a hole in the water that I throw money into) and if that flies I won't have time to make buying a nice boat worthwhile right now.

I have had an offer from a couple here to pay for their walkon mooring and the insurance for a 32' Tiara, for which I get 100% exclusive use for a year.  May do that for this summer.

Nice Red!  Might give a go at re-carpeting my little Nitro in the next couple years.  Gonna blow my wad on a new trolling motor this year though.

Can't wait to get back out on the water, this winter stuff really sucks.

Well apparently it doesn't suck so much for you.   :)

I want to recarpet and re do all the seats in my boat, they are all ripped and weather beaten.  runs great though, so I am afraid if I make it all purty it will jinx me and something will break  :lol
Title: Re: RedTop's Bass Boat project....

LOL @ Homer

It's not easy...but I tell you as I'm doing it , it sure swells that chest out when you look at what ya did when it looks all nice and stuff. All the lids are about finished...the deck will hopefully get done this weekend.

My seats have no tears at all. But they were kind of dirty and stuff....So I bought some Magic erasers...And oh man. The seats are white and red on my boat.....they look great now.

This boat is a 2001....and you wouldn't believe the compliments I get on it when it's all cleaned up and shining....One guy made me show him my registration to prove it was a 2001...he just wouldn't believe me cause it looked better than is 06...lol

Good luck with it should you decide to do it...Weather here has been cold so I've been gluing lids in the house on the TV Trays while watching ESPN....LOL

That ranger is 21ft...225 Evinrude ETEC....It'll run 70 or so trimmed up good....I've seen 72 in it and it was glass water....my normal runs are no faster than 60 or so now if that....It's that I know what itll do and no need to do it again thing. LOL

All the lids are completed....hard ware goes on them tomorrow...then it's just finish the deck.

Now all you need is to buff the gelcoat and apply plenty of wax and elbow grease!

I wish I was close by to help,I find polishing a finish to be very satisfying.

Red,do yourself a favour and grab a flyrod and give it a try. A big black woolybugger on a #8 flyrod and you might just give up all those baitcasters!!! :aok  Early evening topwater with poppers can be the most fun you'll have with your clothes on.

I have a Vet bud I fish with in Kayaks...He's big into fly fishing and hooking me up with a few flies for my spinning rod....When I'm messing around it's one thing...but generally...I fish pretty much bass baits. Fishing tournaments some...I have to keep on top of that.

Oh that looks ugly mbailey!  Although we've had our fair share of snow already this year, that big storm missed us.  I tarp my bass boat with a pvc pipe frame to try and help keep the snow from piling up on it.

built a 2x4 frame and tied a tarp over it, so far havent had any issues, the snow slides right off.  but on the crap side I parked it down in our field for the winter time and had to take the outdrive off because it sits too low to make it up the drive way  :(  but its only 6 nuts and a pain in them as well to get back together.  the drive shaft always kicks my arse putting it back together. :lol
