Title: After all these years, I have to say goodbye...

To my Microsoft Sidewinder 1 Joystick I bought in College at the Radio Shack in downtown Pittsburgh in 2002. :D In fact I bought two of these at the same a week apart, because I had a home LAN. This was my first multi-button stick. One of them finally crapped out in 2009 or 10 I think, this was the other one that was still in its box. I flew these sticks nearly every friday night for 12 years, I'm sure this one still has 6 or 7 more years.

So now I say hello with these...

I hope to get a little more active in the MA, to get more time on these between FSOs. I will miss my old sidewinder.  :cry   See ya up!

To all those pilots I have nabbed on Friday Nights over the years, you can picture me holding onto this wildly with a drink in my left hand with my fingers ready for the rudder...  :ahand

Nef can i ask how much you had to dish out for that setup? Ive been upgrading my PC but am still using a mouse, and I am starting to think the stick would add  some realism.  That looks like fun!

Ah!!!  Someone get this guy a stick and rudder pedals.  It'll take him 5 months to adjust and I can finally kill him

If your X52pro lasts longer than 3 weeks, it will have lived longer than the one I bought and sent back.

Nef, nef, nef..

I see a subject like yours and the first thing I do is look at the author.  Most of time it's by somebody I've never heard of, so I just move along.

When your name appeared in the author column, the  :O triggered.

So I opened it.

For you, Nef.. I award you the troll bridge award..

Will, save yourself endless frustration and get yourself a powered USB hub before even trying to fly. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=392&srkey=usb%20hub (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=392&srkey=usb%20hub)

I use this one with my X52 Pro http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7171513&CatId=392 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7171513&CatId=392) and recommended it to a squad mate who just bought an X52 that was having issues.  All problems went away as soon as he plugged into the hub.  The X52 just draws too much power to run right off the MOBO.

Girly hands.....lmao

Funny you should mention that.

Last night I plugged it in and went straight to town. Worked great, detected it fine. Then I plugged in the pedals, it didnt detect. So I grabbed the pedals disk and bad things happened. It wouldn't detect anything... dvd drives or hard drive! I rebooted and computer would not start up. Win 7 tried to fix problem but couldn't.  I unplugged both devices and rebooted again, it started up fine and I plugged both devices in again and it detected both.

Jumped in aces high and was shot down... lol.

Do you think it will continue to be a problem?

How much juice is your power supply delivering? Agree with Dragon, get yourself a good powered USB hub. Good luck with the Saitek rig...a lot of players find themselves with major calibration issues after 6-8 months...others are fine for years.

I loved my old Sidewinder. Maybe the smoothest X - Y inputs of any stick I've owned, and there's been a few.

900 watts.

That's more then enough for a power supply.  How much is earmarked for USB is the question.

My HOTAS is complete CH USB.  I urge you to get a powered USB HUB.

CH Products.  A lot of us have been using CH gear (stick, pedals, throttle) since the mid 90's and like it.  I replaced my entire CH Gameport set with a CH USB set when I came back to AH.

Then if you want to go up higher, Thrustmaster and the Warthog HOTAS.  I think Del uses that.  Pretty nifty stuff.

And after that, you get the homemade stuff and the custom stuff that people post.  I think one is a Russian company.

Absolutely Will Help alot, When I had the saitek it would always go out of calibration then I put a powered hub in, problem went away. Great stick as long as you keep it clean. After a year or so it will get sticky just pull off the bottom clean and lube it up, it'll go another year. Its not the perfect setup but it works well if you don't abuse it. Used the 52 and 52pro for 7 years before moving to CH (1 year and going strong). Enjoy and see in the unfriendly skies soon <S> Not sure what i did to make the post look this way  :headscratch:

the X52 is very "good" looking....

but considering how long your last stick lasted I highly doubt you will be happy with the X52 after awhile.......

it has a very weak center spring...which can be fixed with the top center of a CD case cut out and placed on top of spring, stiffens it up just enough...do a search you can find a good explanation on this....

but no matter what Saitek just went cheapo on their manufacturing, I had 3 and all total they did not last a full year before something broke...

I have had the CH fighter stick for 3 years now.....

the Satiak peddles I also have and work great...except they will jump track :bhead :bhead :bhead :bhead.....a major PITA to unscrew a thousand tiny bolts......(ok slight exaggeration)

it was happening all the friggin time....someone said screw down the peddles.....they were....but only one side to keep them from slidding....so I got some plywood and screwed them down from all sides.....

have not jumped track since....I have had these almost 4 years....
