Title: NEW b-17 2048 skin prototype
Post by: HornetUK on January 31, 2014, 02:19:00 AM
hi all just thought I would shear the 3rd of my skin projects I am working on - now at this stage I have finished the most of the work I am doing in Adobe illustrator and have been working on the skin in Adobe Photoshop for a few Hours.

As my second skins set the b-24's were better than my first the b-29's I hope my b-17 will be even better, Well I hope  :x

:furious SORRY i can't show you in AH but having major problems with rivets since new version  :furious

I just re-read your opening post.

What is the advantage you see in using Illustrator first, then Photoshop?

Tks.

Well Photoshop is really a photo editing program as illustrator is a drawing program both made by adobe.

it just allows greater freedom to draw etc... using vector graphics and much much more. it is the industry standard and allows far greater control.

I have it as Part of Adobe Masters Collection CS5

if you are interested in having a look here is the link for illustrator.

Good work, Hornet! I like the bare metal approach. Looks a lot like the 457th BG bare metal skin.

Couple of aircraft that are at the local airport during the last B-25 gathering.

Thought they make good reference material.

Title: Re: NEW b-17 2048 skin prototype
Post by: HornetUK on February 27, 2014, 04:59:18 AM
Well this is the first of my b-17s for my squad the 97th bomber group which is made up of the 340th 341st 342nd 414th bomb squadrons Infact they are very rear to come across b-17g of that group. They are mainly f models.

The two on the tail means it is of the 342nd squadron and I have not shown the nose art but it is "BABY" got special permission to use the actual nose art.

Nose art of Last b-17 "Baby" of 342nd BS 97th Bomb Group

New Skin of "Kwitursqueakin II" 414th BS 97th Bomb Group

There is an error in the rudder which put kinks in the lines so I had to make this skin well distressed to hide that fact. However it works well as a good difference to "Baby"

~S~ HORNETUK,
Yes it is very hard to find pictures of the 97th BG (H) B-17G, as with the total History of the 97th BG.
I been doing research on this Group for the past 10 years and all I can find is bits and pieces of their History.
True you can find lots of pictures of the 97th BG B-17E/F models, since that's what they flew mostly until I think 1944.
I guess being the 1st operational Heavy Bomb Group and 1st American Heavy Bomb Group to fly the 8th Bomber Command and 8th Air Force
mission on August 17th, 1942, there would be more on the Group History. The 97th BG (H) flew more combat mission then any other operational
Bomb Group in the ETO and MTO.
Your skins are excellent piece of work and hope HTC approves them fast to be in game.

Cheyenn
Commanding Officer 97th Bomb Group (Heavy)

Funny part of clad .040 is this...once it leaves the factory it's never that 'shiney' again *unless hangar-ed and not flown*.

Only bomber can be 2048 size, fighter at the moment still have to be 1024.

Will that mean all of 1024 sized skins have to be redone?

The current lot of 1024 res B-17 skins do not have to be redone and they can't be anyway until the skins submission page supports updates.

oh?

pics?

no one cares or remembers but the reason the b17 3d model looks so good is I personally made the 2d plans for it that natedog used for an accurate profile and made the original skin based off photographs.

it may not have the resolution of the new skins but I would like to see pics of what is replacing it as an "Improvement".

just something to think about when you look at the 3d model and see how well it captures the look of the b17 while every other b17 in 3d is a failure especially around the cockpit.
