Title: This week in AvA Feb. 7
Post by: shppr01 on February 01, 2014, 05:30:51 PM

Baseplate or Operation Ground Plate)

launched on January 1, 1945,was an attempt
by the Luftwaffe to cripple Allied air forces
in the Low Countries of Europe during Second
World War. The Germans husbanded their resources
in the preceding months at the expense of the
Defense of the Reich units in what was a
last-ditch effort to keep up the momentum
of the German Army (German: Heer) during
the stagnant stage of the Battle of the Bulge
(German: Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein).
The operation was a Pyrrhic success for the
Luftwaffe as the losses suffered by the German
air arm were irreplaceable. The losses of the
Allied Air Forces were replaced within weeks.
The operation failed to achieve air superiority
even temporarily, and the German Army continued
to be exposed to air attack. Bodenplatte was the
final major Luftwaffe offensive during World
War II.

Obligatory "The 1942 Merlin 61 Spitfire Mk IX was not in service in 1945 and, barring balance purposes which shouldn't be an issue with the Bf109K-4 and Fw190D-9 present, should be replaced with one or both of the Spitfires that were actually there, the Mk XIV and Mk XVI."

Alternatively you could "balance" it by replacing the Bf109s with the Bf109G-2 and the Fw190s with the Fw190A-5.  That would be just as reasonable.

I wasn't really going for historic accuracy. I was picking a plane set that I thought would be fun ! I do appreciate all the suggestions though! Please feel free to come in and still have fun !

Spit XIVs, sure, but 1942 relics against top line 1945 German stuff, no thanks.  Get your shop together and maybe people will start showing up, but as long as you're determined to preset the outcomes in the initial setup the AvA will never again be what it once was.

Karnak , I do realise that We will not be able to please everyone, So we don't try . However , We don't feel the need to ridicule what others do . I know I will not see you in AvA but that isn't a bad thing in my book ! Id rather people have fun .. To each their own !

Whatever Karnak.  It's his first set up.  So how about you take your normal condescending crap and shove it up your exhaust.  For years you've jumped at every chance to spew your typical bullcrap about the AvA & its staff.  By this point I'm almost positive an AvA staffer from way back took your virginity and never called you back.

based on what ive read, the only 2 planes in the operation was the p51 and the p47. based on the fact that the p47M had problems, and wasn't deployed until march, the setup is relatively acurate. 109G's and 190's are about right.

as ranger said, this is shippers first setup. the write up was one that he copied and pasted. maybe you should do the write ups for us, karnak. then you can tell us what planes are/should be included. this would save us from, due to the lack of time, doing the research ourselves. we're to busy running setups and trying to create things for people to enjoy in the AVA arena.

i flew the setup last night, and was totally ruled by a spit9. so for playability, id say its a good setup.

Very simple, Karnak.  Put up or shut up.

I love that monster, but no, it shouldn't be in the setup and it wasn't in theater at the time, as noted previously.

It appears he has chosen the "Shut Up" option.

It's Tuesday, that means AvA Staff night in the AvA at 9PM EST.

Our meetings don't usually last long (if we actually have an agenda) and then we get to play.
