Went into the store last night and had a case of severe sticker shock
A one pound package of Oscar Mayer bacon was $8! Eight freakin dollars for a plain package of bacon
:cry

And Paul Krugman says there is no inflation! What weed is that crack-head smoking.

Price increases driven by shortages are not inflation.

Yup....bacon prices have been high down here in Texas for sometime. Can't even touch thick cut or peppercorn bacon for under ten dollars.

I think its crazy that a gallon of milk is $5.99 here.
-
Heh... At the store I work at bacon is only 5.99 for 12 slices and a gallon of milk is only 2.99.
Then again I live in Wisconsin.

Scarcity? Then it would seem we have a scarcity all over the place, food, fuel, clothing, commodities, etc, etc.

$4.99 here... Store brands are about $4. Watch for sales, typically $2.99 for a pound.

I read a while back that part of the increase in food prices is due to the fact that corn is now being used to fuel our cars instead of feeding our hogs and cows.
The price of corn goes up and is passed down the line to you and me.

There is also a virus that is going around the pig farms, not sure to what extent that has on the market.
Anyone see the price of propane lately. The price has doubled here.
Milk still get around 2.50, I think 2.39 and still get bacon 3.99. I don't see the ten pound boxes anymore and haven't for awhile. I used to buy the 10 pound boxes when on sale then rewrap.

Time to start eating up the fat women!

The real rate of inflation calculated on the same basket of goods as 1980:

The real rate of inflation calculated on the same basket of goods as 1990:

The reason these differ from the official government inflation numbers is that when something gets expensive, the government occasionally deletes it from the basket of goods and to substitute in a cheaper alternative or reduces its weighting in the calculation. For example, a representative basket of goods might have had steak in it, whereas today the steak was taken out and replaced with an equal weight of hamburger; or it can include steak, but less of it.

it is the price of propane doubled, most pigs are the kind that need to be warm. Hence the cost of pork goes up. So eat some oatmeal.

Best way to pay down our debt i.e. inflate the money supply (print print print baby) / devalue the debt.
No wonder China is irritable with us. I can't say I blame them. :frown:
FYI - Krugman's a idiot. A well educated (and well intentioned) idiot to be sure, but a idiot just the same.

Brooke is the winner!
And wages are not growing at these inflation rates thus the lower quintile are not keeping up, actually almost all income brackets are not keeping up. All of this is driven by the insane Fed policies designed by John Maynard Keynes in the 1930's. Our current policies, QE of $85 billion a month are actually driving income inequality much higher, and inflation, while wages are sticky and not keeping up. If you own lots of wealth in stock you are a happy person (for the time being) and your wealth is bloating like the Fed is bloating the stock market. In time, that fake wealth will pop too.
