Is there some specific format an avatar needs to be in? I tried PNG's and GIF's, 80x80 size and I kept getting an upload error from the message board.
-
i think bitmap works

or the file size needs to be reduced. If you want to PM me with the image I can help you get it sorted out.

I've tried setting the avatar size to 80x80, I've used .gif, .jpg, and .png file types, and I've even resized it down to 50x50 - no go. Any other suggestions?

Ive already said file size and that I would help (there is a difference in the image dimensions 80x80 and the size of the image in terms of storage space, not much more anyone can do if you don't give someone access to the image. There could be more problems then just the image type, but try bmp.

What error are you getting?
The avatar must be 80x80 pixels, or smaller, and be a gif, jmg, or bmp. That is the only requirements.

I think your missing the file size requirement. If you upload a gif that is to large in terms of size ( Mega Bites ) the BBS will not allow it and you have to reduce the file size to some X number of MB's that I cannot recall.

My filesize was 1.2kb - it's not a size issue, unfortunately.

It is virtually impossible to violate the size requirement due to the pixel count.

the 80x80 requirement sure, but the file size requirement is a constant pain in the butt. I have always had to use a gif file reduction program just to make my avatars that are gifs work on this BBS. I constantly have to reduce the quality and the frames in my work to meet the size requirements here, so I guess in my eyes it is a constant issue and not a small one. I understand the reasoning behind having low allowances for file size on a forum however.

Really? Odd as there is no specific file size setting for the uploadable avatars. Wonder where that is happening at?
-
Animated gif will run out of space quick.

I just tried this avatar as bmp and it was too big
18.8kb vs 9.59kb as jpg

Did you check the pixel count after the conversion? A quick glimpse showed me avatars of way over 25kb...

??
as bmp its 80x80 15.8kb
as jpg its 80x80 9.59kb
the bbs said the bmp filesize was too large

Hmmm... I just downloaded your avatar, changed it to bmp of 18.8kb and set it as mine without any problems. Now I have to find where I've put my original one...

what do you mean by "way over 25kb" because I cant get anything past the file size restriction that's better then 30+kb

The biggest I found was about 28.5 kb, which is a whopping 14% more than 25 kb...

No changes here.

Are you sure some of you are not confusing avatar kb size with the in-game nose art kb file size limit?
A quick check of the squads folder will show that nose art pics are all something like 8 kb , IIRC...
Long time back like around 2000/2001 I think there might have been an avatar size limit of like under 29 kb or there abouts...
Just going from memory... Please correct any thing wrong if I've posted such...
