Post by: Randy1 on February 12, 2014, 06:38:54 AM
Let the scoring selection between Fighter and Attack be automatic with selection the addition of ords and ords removal.

+1....Great Idea! .... but all the score boys won't like it.

I just have an egg/s on all my planes and use different planes for different things exp:D-27 and D-40 are always set heavy/max and set on attack... D11 is heavy set to fighter. P-40N heavy set to attack.... the rest of the P-40 set to fighter.

You can always go light and fight,

+1, if the score boys don't like it, it has to be beneficial to the game.

It sounds good, but I like to make my own decesion. I might want to carry ordnance and still be a fighter, of course after ordnance is dropped.

Conditional +1

So long as I can turn it off like auto takeoff or auto film recording.

So I would have to score as "fighter" when going on a 6x20mm ground strafing run in the Me410?

Perhaps the soloution would be as simple as having the option when taking guns only, but always in ATTACK if taking ordnance.

That's brilliant, actually...

How about just clicking on the button for attack or fighter?

ack-ack

make it default to "attack" when ord is selected, but still changable to "fighter" by clicking on the same buttons already there.

The interesting question to me is: How would you handle planes like the D3A and Ju87D that have the option of "attack" or "bomber"? What would they default to?  :headscratch:

Heh. Everything I fly is set to "attack". That started long ago for flights where I had thought had little chance of doing anything but hurting the fighter score, such as desperate base defense. Then, gradually, it dawned on me that the sorties where I did anything I darn well pleased regardless of risk/reward ratio on score were so much more fun than ones where I cared how this impacted some stats. Nowadays every single fighter in the hangar is still set on "attack", because I no longer care whether I even have a fighter score at all or not.  :aok

This will greatly hinder the efforts of those that fly for score!

Next you will want to treat every time a plane ups after a re-arm as a new sortie!

There will be rioting in the streets. Mass mayhem.  The sky will crack in two.  The time space continuum will cease.  John will have never met Paul!

OK, ok...

+1

Lusche my WAG guess would be a sortie to just strafe would be a low percentile of attack scoring sorties.

Good thinking.  This would work well if fighter mode was the normal default with the option to switch to Attack.

Score Tards are already making sure they select the correct option. It will help the newer/don't care about score players rank higher.

I had a new player ask me why his fighter rank was so low (he was not that bad at shooting things down). Turns out he did not know that if your bombing/strafing then it hurts the fighter rank. I cannot blame him as its not well conveyed.

Exactly, seems like trying to reinvent the wheel. As it is now you have the choice to select whatever mode you wish, the proposal seems to limit this choice, which is something I personally dont think is good for the game.

I'm left to wonder what the motivation is behind this? Did the OP fly with ords and forget to select attack mode and scored no points? And because of this they want it to be automatic? Or is this about score and stopping players from flying in attack mode to protect their score?

I ask because if it's a case of protecting the fighter score, all one needs do is up with ords and drop them on the RW,they are now effectively flying a fighter in attack mode and still protecting their fighter score.

None of this matters to me I'm just curious as to what motivates a"wish" such as this.

+1 with the agreement that if you carry ords it defaults to attack and vice versa.

But that would not explain

This will greatly hinder the efforts of those that fly for score!

Because if you are really flying for score, you couldn't care less if a player that new choses the correct mode or not. Besides, that newbie would still up without ords in fighter mode and "hurt" his score by deackign a field or town...

Nothing more irritating than have a good jabo sortie then realize you forgot to switch from fighter scoring to attack scoring.

Guys come on.  Those of you poking this KNOW the answer of course.

Lets try it this way.  After a pilot achieves a high rank why would they ever switch (and stay switch) to ground attack?  Possibly, selectively switching to fighter when an environment is conducive to do so.  For those new\few that really dont know I say try it and find out for yourself.  ;)

After realizing what this can do, some will be woohoo!  Others meh.

BTW I am a +1 on this wish.  If it can help new pilots all the better.

Its crazy behavior I tell ya!

EDIT: Then again maybe I am wrong.  Maybe this has been changed. I dont fly for score\rank but follow the topic.
