This is a direct port of ndisles with the current state of our light scattering.
Still things to add to the system but this is the first step in the integration.

Way awesome! :rock

Looks good! Is the sun going to rise from below the horizon as it should, rather than centering on the player's altitude as it does now?
-
Looking great! :O :aok
I can't wait for the new terrain and lighting to be a part of the MA! :aok :salute

in other words is the sun going to go full rotation rise in the east and set in the west..that would really be cool
-
would be nice to have some day / night instead of always fighting in and endless blue sky day. Looks good so far.

This would make the AH "no change" people mad.

:aok
And looks good btw HTC

Nice.

One can still scale the graphics right back down to AH1ish levels if one so desires and get decent FRs. I do that to GV on the crap computer I'm typing on right now. I don't imagine that will change.

Nice job Hitech and Aces High mad scientists!! :)
-
Awesome
-
Very nice HT - looking forward to enjoying that in the arenas

And HiTech said, "Let there be light" and there was light, and the light was good..............

Looks good. Going to be some fine eye candy.

Before you were born, we had night time in this game. When night would roll around, the majority of the players would log off and either come back in an hour after the night was over or just log off for the day. Those that remained to play during the night, quite a few would just alt+tab out of the game and then go to their video properties and up the gamma level until it was like day time. Having seen the negative impact night time had on the game and how some would just circumvent it, it was removed.

Things have changed ,like how graphics work in game now,and how they worked then.just cranking gamma up don't work the same as it did, move on. :salute

See Rule #4

For quote of a Rule #4

Yes it does, now it's even easier since the gamma settings are now in game and players wouldn't have to alt+tab out of the game to adjust them. If you think it's not possible anymore, just go offline and set it to night and up the gamma. Instant day time.

I see you resort to throwing around insults when someone questions you. Fact is this, night as like many things in this game need not be realistic as to where you can't see infront of you. A lot of FPS have "night time" and while its not a realistic night it still sets the mood.

There was no insult in my previous post. Fact is, the vast majority logged off during night time when we had it. That is not good for business. If you were going to make night "unrealistic" then why bother wasting the resources to code it?

Setting the mood for the remaining 50 people left online after 200 log off? Numbers arent great the way it is, and I HIGHLY doubt darkness will improve this.

Looks sweet :aok

Or maybe its because people don't want to play the same game with little changes for 10 years.

Moon and stars do exist, ya know.
I'd say it looks very real.

Not bad. Though I have to point out the valley between the 2 mountains is not shadowing correctly. The sun rays are beaming down the valley even before the sun has risen above the ground. It cleans up and looks great as the sun gets higher though. :aok

Actually, the valley is covered in a fog bank which extends around the hill and catches the Sun's rays which are propagated through the mist via refraction. Just saying.

Wow.

wow.

Another reason also is the sun is coming up behind the mountain. But the valley entrance is directly into the sunlight

Release over the summer so I can be amongst the first to play on it :D

With everyone wacking off to graphics now, I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of people stayed online to look at the fancy night time graphics.
New moon, perhaps improved muzzle flash and tracer graphics, who knows.
Especially if they made new fire visualizations, which actually cast light on the environment.

Ok mind blown. This is looking fantastic guys :aok

In line with my past comments on including humorous nonsensical additions along side the great improvements towards realism, could I have a random rooster crow sound added at dawn and maybe an owl hoot sound added at dusk?
You know, things that make you go......... :uhoh wtf was that?
-
From the viewers perspective you have a valley wall that drops off in front of you exposed to the incoming sun's rays as it rises. The mist in the vally very early on begins to glow with the sun just around the far mouth of the valley. So is Hitech also modeling sunlight reflection as a secondary source of illumination through water vapor?
The sun initially is below the far peak. But low level light rays are interacting with the valley face you are standing back of. And the mist is illuminating at the same time as the sun rises while hidden from view by the far peak.

Very nice work. I think the shadows will add some interesting twists to the game, especially for the GV guys and gals. :aok
-
Hopefully my 8gigs and ram and geforce GTX 760 can run these type of shadows, i cant run the ones in the current game (cockpit shadows). :D

Superb job ! :aok

This video was run on an Intel Core 2 (E8400) CPU with 4GB of system RAM, Windows 7 64 bit, and a NVidia GTX 660 with 2GB of video RAM. You can see the frame rate in the video and that is being executed in debug mode under Microsoft Visual Studio.

Will this new engine affect the way tanks and planes are shadowed on the ground?

As we progress we will post up videos and/or screenshots. Anything is possible in the development cycle.

I love how Skuzzy is appropriately non-specific at this stage. :lol
It's looking awesome Skuzzy, thanks for thee work!

If there's anything I can do to help or test(for free of course) please let me know! I'm salivating waiting to get my hands on this new stuff. :)

I can't wait to see what I can do with SweetFX and the new engine. If I can make AH look like this (SweetFX vs. vanilla graphics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK7htqg-Yc8&feature=youtu.be) with the current engine, with the new engine SweetFX will make the game look just as good as anything out there.

I downloaded SweetFX a few days ago after your posts in the other thread on it. Need to get that baby set up and see what it can do!

Nice to see HTC making strides to not get left behind. As the saying goes: better late than never.
Everything looks promising so far and I for one cannot wait to see the final product.
