Monuments Men..
worst film ever!
The plot was transparent, the acting was bad, the combat was terribly unrealistic, George Clooney should be shot. Never have I seen so many famous actors made to look so useless.
Worst bit in the film? When matt damon finally breaks down the defences of the French woman who gives him a tie and her life's work in art cataloguing then practically pleads with him for a little cuddle and warmth and he's all like 'nah, thanks for the tie though, bye.'
Oh, and the only people to die are the French and English guys.
Sickeningly over patriotic and disgracefully boring. Clearly a high budget film that has absolutely no value to the viewer what-so-ever. The only good part of the film is the fact you get to see a C47, B17, Jug and a spitfire. Not even the legendary Bill Murray could save this one.
The misses and I walked out about 20 mins before the end in disgust.
0/5 stars.
absolute rubbish
do not watch

Doesnt seem to be a whole lot out there at the moment. I still want to catch "American Hustle" but it was a pretty weak winter movie scene.
-
American hustle is good, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Monuments Men is based on a 400 page non-fiction book. It's a true story. I'm disappointed to hear that its conversion to cinema went so horribly.
-
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll wait for it to play on AMC someday. :aok

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Did you go into the movie looking for it to be a historically accurate documentary? If you did, then that is where your problem lies.
Hollywood covers a weak story with a bunch of block buster stars. You go to see the movie for the actors, NOT to story. I'm interested in seeing it, but I never did expect much from it.
-
Most of the reviews I've seen in the press agree with Bat on this one.... Save your money, watch it on cable where you can turn it off and take a nap.
-
I've seen it and I agree with Bat…
It should win an award for biggest let down.
-
I saw a reviewer on TV the other morning. He had read the book and was looking forward to it. But was disappointed too. The simple fact that they changed the names of the characters tells you something. A bit of a misfire by Cooney.
On that basis. I'll give it a miss too.
On the other hand he really loved Lego - The movie. Fortunately I have children so I have an excuse to go.

Walked out of this in a free screening after 25 minutes. Pacing wise it felt like a bad imitation of Goodfellas, and I couldn't stomach trying to force Amy Adams into a queen of seduction roll. Its just not her. The movie should reach exposition 30 minutes in at the latest. Pointless, annoyingly overly stylized film.

A co worker of mine went and saw it. He gave it pretty much the same review as the OP.

:rofl This is what people spend their money on, going to see actors. Its an outrage. :old:
The only people Id pay to see are professional athletes, comedians, and strippers. Not some overinflated dobber. :bhead :bolt:

It's a movie. It's purpose is to entertain not to get every single fact right. Yeah I noticed some things, but it kept me interested.

I guess it was Redtails in the Redtails-Rush grand ratings scheme

The worst war movie I have seen is "The men who stare at goats". If The Monuments Men is that bad, I won't see it.

I loved that movie. It was hilarious.

I loved your performance in A Bridge Too Far.

It's not for everyone, the ending was a bit tame, but I thought Bale put in a blinding performance as usual. The quality acting makes the difference for me. If the acting in monuments had been better I could have stomached the hideously slow and uninspired story.
It's a shame because it has the potential to be an amazing story.

I loved your performance in A Bridge Too Far.
I liked him better in the Bridge over River Kwai.

can you do a swashbucklers plank?

I haven't seen Monument Men, but interestingly, I got to talk to WWII vet Robert Thomas who, after being one of the troops taking out bunkers on the Siegfried Line, was one of the first two allied soldiers to discover Narzzie loot stored in a salt mine (Ransbach). It was an amazing story.

no-one can whistle as good as Zack.

To be fair a shiny rock does that Tup

I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 but that's pretty good compared to a lot of movies I've seen, take the hangover trilogy for example.
-
It's Matt Damons fault....
-
Tough crowd, eh? I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I didn't read the book, but did read The Venus Fixers (somewhat similar topic).
Any movie that drives my teens to seek out a book about WWII history is cherries. :)

Clooney fan, no surprise there.
Really, you guys expect and ask this group of actors to render you something impressive? This group probably couldn't tell you what was significant about Dresden, where Dacau is, what Ploesti was, the significance of Downing Street, what operation Overlord was...let alone explain something like the complexities of the Ribbontrop Molotov pact.
The days of actors with cajones is gone, it's money not the tale! Hail John Wayne and Lee Marvin's of their time, unfortunately this generation's actors is poo (as Zack would say,) for the most part.
-
I agree with you there Rot. Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg may have done a better job but that neither here nor there. Film making doesn't seem to be much of a craft anymore.
-
I read the books but have not got around to seeing the movie yet. The book was very good.
