Having just bought a house (move in date 3rd Mar) - trying to find a decent ISP is proving difficult. Can get satellite or wireless, but neither are worth playing with, I'd be warping all over the place (not enjoyable for me or the rest of the players)
Sadly, that means no more AH for this call sign. Thanks all for the fun, the challenges, and the laughs.
If/when I get decent internet, watch out for me wallowing in the sky (as usual), as I will be back!
Keeping my forum ID, you don't get rid of me that easy ya buggers ;)

I feel your pain. When I have to leave the nest and go to my portable joy stick and lap top its tough. it really depends on the service at the hotel or apt. I'm staying at. Wii fi can work but it's tough when everyone else is online. Im once again leaving the comforts of home to Vancouver Canada for 3 months. Fingers crossed my apt. Has high speed. May be you will get some service and come back. Peace.

Sorry to see you go. Congrats on the home purchase! Maybe you will be able to sort things out eventually and get back in the virtual skies! Until then take care!
-
Hey Wurz hate to see you leave bud. :salute The good part is a lot of companys are running fiber out into rural areas if that happens to be your case.
So hopefully we'll see you before too long.
-
In what part of the third-world is your new home? ;)

I will really miss your presence wurzel! :(
Goodluck buddy. :salute

see ya when you get back :salute

:salute Wurz,
The nicest guy in AH.
-
It's sad to see somebody leave due to a tech issue that has no easy solution like this.
Hopefully something comes along to fix this problem for you, Wurz, you've always been a nice guy online and on the BBS.
-
Umm... hate to ruin your farewell but dial-up works just fine with the game. You do have phone lines doen't you?
-
Don't make me come over there :old: btw wanna come up for the airshow?
-
Ouch! Too bad, hopefully they'll fix the situation someday. How about trying to make the local big guys interested in AH...?

I love you Wurzel :cry

Wurz!
Yep, you might want to try good old-fashioned DSL. We had to use that at a work location a couple of years back. It's faster than DSL from 20 years ago, but still vastly slower than cablemodems or Fios. Still, as noted, it is probably fine for Aces High, which is more demanding on latency than bandwidth.
-
Until a recent move to Comcast cable, I used DSL for years with a measly 1.75 down & .35 up. Rarely if ever did I have warping issues. I believe you need to be within 2 miles of the Telco for DSL...at least that's why my provider told me.
:salute Gp...hope you find a solution.

One of our squad members uses a dedicated modem for wireless and works pretty well.

I too live in a rural area where there is no cable. There is only satellite and Clearwire which is scum of the earth. I tether my phone and use its Verizon 4GLTE connection. I could play for hours every day and not go over my 4 gig data limit. To anyone considering using this method, I recommend you download an app to tether. The built-in function may incur a fee from your cell carrier. I bought a full app called PDANET for $7. My latency is 100ms or less. No packet loss and mostly flat variance.
-
I also use Verizon wireless. Its that unit that looks like a thumb drive. I connected an external antenna to mine. Antenna is outside. Works fine. Ordered both from Verizon.
Plan to be off grid soon.
Don't leave, we need you!

i use modem from verizion wireless it wires into my PC by USB i am limited to 10 GB a month that is plenty for gaming but not downloading or anything else its the only internet i can get out here in the sticks i have used it for 5 years now it cost about $75 a month but its that or dial up my ping aint great it ranges from 100-150 most of the time with spikes around 170-200 but it drop back to 100-150 rather fast no warping or i dont notice lag at all its not cable but it about the next best thing its not bad for wireless and the good thing is you can take it anywhere and have internet as long as you got service it work kinda like a cell phone the more service you got the better :salute
-
You don't need a lot of bandwidth (though it makes updating a squeak)... low network latency is the ticket, and dialup works just fine... better than DSL in many cases.
-
Wurz, will miss ya my ol' bud. Come on back when you can. Thank you for flying that avatar these years after I asked people too. I've always appreciated that. You're a good guy & the game will be less without ya. :salute

:frown:
What else can you say....although....I can now hold the title of worst player....woohoo
Even though I haven't run into you much since your move... It is sad knowing that I definitely won't for a while...
Hope to see you again soon man....PS...the dial up is an option :)
Good luck with the future :salute

Wurz my dad runs on sat and sometimes has issues but its better than the dial up, I run on a cellphone and its even better than the sat. Might take a look and see what your speeds are like.
If not then :neener:

at&t has u-verse wi-fi. i use it right im on their 12g plan.it runs thru phone system--has modem-works great.--can you get att u-verse??????
-
I've got DishNet and I have a flat connection with no lag and Im out in the sticks...I could get windstream dial-up that they say is like DSL but it I don't believe them....
-
DSL aint gonna work, waaaay more than 2 miles rom the nearest exchange. Current plan is to get a dial up line (Thanks Bald, only reason I didnt consider that was the updates) to play through, with a wireless system for usual surfing and grabbing the updates etc.
If I can find a decent wireless provider, this thread would be wrong. If not, I'll ya all when I see ya.
You lot make the game, and thanks all.

Sigh, this thread is now redundant - had to cancel the house purchase due to the seller being a complete tool.
To summarise, he's done a load of work "to code" - which basically isnt. $4000 needed to sort the electrics out after he screwed them up. $3800 needed to permit the addition he made - and thats just for plans for the permit. Plus anything else he's mashed as he obviously doesn't know what he's doing.
So, we're not moving, so I'm able to keep my current internet - plus I should now have time to log in and play ocassionally.
Good to go,
Wurz

Dial up is my best option and works ok.....not like when I was on my son's cable in Seattle, but okay. Where I live my only other choice is satellite, and the latency is just awful on that, varies from about 0.7 to 10+ seconds......
-
nah nah nah nah... hey hey hey... o wait ur staying.. nm lol

:salute Good Luck

Silver linings :)

I strictly fly wireless..on a laptop in a truck using verizon usb data devIce with a 60fps rate and if it's on 4g tower got a ping rate of 80 to 110 hardly get discos and the only time my fps drops is in clouds or there's like 20 of us taking off from cv at the same time..don't give up..you can still have a blast..I can't blame my stats on internet lol..it's a ACM skill problem not vid card or internet connection. :salute

Welcome back :)
Now there's an ad worthy of HTC.
Choice between flying Aces High and buying house. AH Wins!
You'll find a house worthy of your investment, glad you didn't get stuck on that one though.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave........ :aok
