Title: Which is better
Post by: shppr01 on February 15, 2014, 10:01:01 PM
Which one of these would be a better choice for starters ?
Nvidia Geforce GT 610 1GB
AMD Radeon HD 8470D
This is only for a while til I can build up finances.

HD 8470D PassMark value = 511
Nvidia Geforce GT 610 PassMark value = 348

Higher is better, and here's how it compares against some other cards:

and here's the page for the GT 610

Do you already have them or are you going to buy one? In the latter case I'd take a closer look at the Passmark site Easy referred to. There's lots of cards in http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html) scoring four-digits in the two-digit price category.

Actually Biz, they are in two pcs that I am looking at , I am trying to decide which is a better system to start with . I know I need to upgrade the card soon, but I am looking for the best one for now .
At least until money starts rolling again !!

So are you going to buy one of those for your main temporary gaming rig or as a source of spare parts like a videocard to your current computer? In both cases some more details would help us to give you the best advice we can.

And although the HD 8470D seems to be the better performer of those two, it'd help to know if it's a built-in one using resources from the main computer like it seems from what I found about it.

the radeon 8470D is an integrated gpu on the AMD A6-6400 APU and it's not for gaming, nor can it be replaced...especially if you're buying a laptop. if you buy it in a desktop, the power supply won't be adequate for a better video card, even if the mobo has a pci-e slot on it.

Thanks all ! I think I am going a different route . I am sure I have been talked into building instead of buy one .  So I will be putting in a  Radeon HD 6670 1GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card.  I do appreciate all the help !!
