The seemingly insignificant red arrow creeps toward strats until it is replaced with a full sector wide dar bar.
This off map BS is now being gamed for advantage.
I was wondering if htc could have a number replace the arrow.
The number would be the amount of planes off map in that sector.

Put a 50,000mph down draft at the edge of the map so that somebody trying to go out of bounds just has their wings torn off and is slammed into the ground.

I really like this idea.
BIG +1

+1. No more flying in the nowhere. :aok

More moderately, as the game is currently limited to about 130mph winds, just put a 130mph down draft at the edge. Other than the Me163, which for other reasons is never used for off map expeditions, no aircraft in AH can climb at even 60mph upward and would be forced down. The down draft might tear off wings for some aircraft, but for others it would simply be a warning to get back in bounds before your Bf109K-4 or Ki-84 is forced into the ground.

How about 120mph away from the map for all 4 borders?
A guy flies off map by accident and has to struggle to get back on and learns the lesson without losing an aircraft.
-
or........anyone flying off the map is abducted by aliens and teleported back to launch field.

Put 60,000 foot high brick walls at the edges of every map. Nobody gets out alive. :devil

Warbirds had those, rather unpleasant if you were engaged in a legit fight at the map edge and bumped the wall.
How about all cons off map show on radar regardless of altitude or HQ condition.

Most people don't go to the edge of maps for a fight. ;)
There could also be a pop-up on your monitor warning you from going off map. Those that ignore the warning spontaneously explode at the border.
If not that, a variation on your idea: any con going off map has not only a dot displayed to all countries, but aircraft type and altitude as well.

I don't think that is enough of a penalty, even for an He111. I'd rather something fatal if not responded to.

Add 120mph downdraft to it?
You should be able to add both lateral and vertical winds in arena settings.
Survivable if for a few seconds if you stray outside during a fight but fatal for any long term flying.

Yes you can and that would work.

It the current code, any wind is applied equally across the whole arena. You cannot tell it to have no downdraft over "the playable map" and have max downdraft over "what's off the map".
In actuality, as far as I know, the arena is always 512x512 miles and it's just the clipboard map that shows you the terrain that was built within it. If the terrain is only 256x256, it is centered inside the full 512 area (which is why you can fly "off the map".

I'd like to see the "Twilight Zone" fly boys get curtailed as well. Stay on the map or back to the tower you go! *puuf*
-
I didnt even know this was happening. Shame on those pulling it. Real cheesy.

No, but some get chased there. And you can end up going off the map for legitimate reasons during a fight.
So, how about a sixty second countdown, and then the fuel burn multiplier goes to 4X?
Or... Instead of a brick wall, as some have suggested, a wall of puffy ack. It gets heavier and more accurate the longer you are off the map?

4X is nothing to some bombers. Make it 20X or 60 seconds and then <boom> back to the tower.

I used to love flying off map in RR small euro arena and end up in the other RR arenas.
ack-ack

How about as soon as you hit the end of the map all flight controls are disabled and you just keep flying further and further away until you get bored and bail... or end up in China.

Found our captured CV once at the edge. Came back with bombers and it had disappeared. Edge of the map is a huge green wall. A 262 pops out of the wall and attacks..hmmmm. We fly through the wall and theres the CV in the twilight zone. Drop is good....wait...wait...boom boom boom booom....no damage. Bullets and bombs were all rubber on the other side of the wall.
Map edge should be the game boundary. Solid 60K cliff, giant flying squid or whatever, but something that puts you in the tower or makes you turn around immediately.

Giant sheep!
(Or a huge 3d picture of HiTech)

anything that flies off the map should turn into a Storch

One of our huge maps on the right hand side has a finger of water that runs south past a V base. Then it has a hidden canal that circles the map. When you fly off the map over that canal, your weapons fire, bombs drop, but do nothing. CV's get hidden there for the duration of the map and tolerated with the general knowledge of the fact. Some argument can be made for the heat of the moment and you were forced there in a fight during air operations. Kind of lame since you know for a very long time where that boarder is.
If you cross that line, your bullets, bombs and rockets should no longer work when you cross back into the active game arena. It's like teachers today saying kids will be kids while watching your kids cheat on a test using their cell phones. Suddenly cheating becomes a noble enterprise with no consequences other to those who refuse to be cheaters in that school. Either going off the map is not wrong and get rid of the arrows calling it super NOE stealth mode. Or some boundaries have to exist to not insult your paying customers who play by the few rules in the arena.

you should appear on the opposite side of the map. like in asteroids.

Now that would be fun and funny! :aok :rofl

I came back from AFK and found myself way off map and out of fuel when I noticed a train............so I shot it.

That would be funny. Bombers climbing east to 30K and appearing in the west headed for strats. With the old strat system, guys would be yelling "Quick! Take that field back so our strats move to the front!" :D
