Amazing...
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-02-17/invading-switzerland-try-before-8-or-after-5.html
The Swiss Air Force does not intercept intruders out of working hours... When I had seen this in the first place (http://theaviationist.com/2014/02/18/ethiopian-air-def-response/) I couldn't believe...
If you don't have a budget (Switzerland... seriously) than wouldn't it be more wise to keep a smaller/less advanced air force that can actually do the job?
Interesting how would Swiss vote on buying Gripens (which is :O as well, but what do I understand it the Swiss internal affairs)... If this is the situation than they really don't need ones as they fly on working hours only.
Amazing...

I'm guessing the Swiss AF is trying to shame its government into giving it more funds. As for the referendum on buying Gripens the Swiss have a semi-direct democracy. On average they have three referendums per year over important matters.

That's my kind of Air Force pilot job. Office hours only and no deployments. :aok The irony is that most Swiss Air Force pilots are reservists so by definition they are available only outside office hours!
Having said that. I'm in no position to sneer. It's not as if Ireland even has an intercept capability in or out of office hours. We don't even have a military radar let alone interceptors. All we have, ironically, is Swiss made PC9s with armed only .50 cal machine guns. That pilot should have come here. :frown:

Nothing to fear. All the Bad Boys keep their money there. Why do you think they havent been to war since the 1300's

Oh, they have... a lot of times. Wars and individual battles happened until the mid 19th century.
