As some of you know I have had some serious issues with my computer since December 2013. I do plan on getting a new rig in a few months, but not being able to play ANY games until then just doesn't sit well with me. So I am here to ask of your help concerning my computer.
My rig doesn't recognize my keyboard when I try to type or play any games. However, it recognizes the hotkeys, like opening windows media player etc. I cannot connect to the internet on my rig for some reason. I am unsure of what caused my computer the inability to connect to the internet or my keyboard to stop working, however, it started right after my dad did a system restore. He didn't give an explanation as to why he gave a system restore, but all I know is after he did, these problems surfaced.
I went into device manager and seen that the keyboard drivers are either missing or corrupted. I went into troubleshooting and it said to uninstall, so I did. I plug them back in to reinstall and it says I need the internet, which I am unable to connect to for some reason. When I plug the keyboard/mouse back in the system recognizes it's a keyboard and mouse, however the drivers are still "missing or corrupted". I went to microsoft.com/logitech.com to get driver updates for these components, using a thumb-drive to take it from one computer to the other, however nothing worked.
I blindly went into the BIOs and simply looked at everything, not noticing anything that stood out. (I am a rookie so that doesn't mean much :D ).
If it helps here is a DxDiag.

Motherboard is an Asus P5N-D
I would really like to get back to flying, even if it is with crappy graphics. Any help would be appreciated. :salute

What kind of keyboard? What kind of interface? Analog or USB? Are you connecting directly to the computer or a Hub? It looks like you have an audio driver missing? Yes? Can you get audio?
Why cant you get online? Are you hardwired or on a wireless network?

All keyboards I tried failed. I was using a logitech wireless mouse/keyboard, which doesn't work. Tried a plug n play keyboard (USB) that didn't work either, then finally the old fashioned pin keyboard and that didn't work either (yet when I go into BIOS keyboard works fine, it's after I get to the main desktop screen that nothing works).
Not sure what you mean by interface.
I have audio, it plays music fine.
I don't know why I can't connect to the internet, I haven't found a logical reason. Wireless network - Comcast.
-
Do you show any errors in device manager under 'Network Adapters'? If you do, you may want to download the appropriate drivers for your particular wireless adapter from another computer and put them on a cd or usb flash drive. Do the same for your keyboard and sound card drivers. Then transfer the drivers to your pc and load the drivers. After you have done this let us know what other problems you run into if any. Good luck!

Sounds like your OS or registry is corrupted. Keyboards do not need any special drivers to work. Time to reinstall windows - or if you're unlucky, time for a new motherboard.

Guess I'm going all out today, brought the computer up here next to this one will relay what I find.
In Device Manager under the Network Adapters tab I have these, in the following order.
- 1394 Net Adapter
- avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport
- hamachi Network Interface (Has a red X on it)
- Hamachi Network Interface - Avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport
- NVIDIA NForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet
- NVIDIA Nforce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet - avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport
- unknown device (lock with ! on it)
- WAN Miniport (IP) - avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport
For the unknown device, I try to uninstall it and it says it's required for turning on the computer. Under properties it says the drivers for this device aren't installed (Code 28).

You posted when I was typing my mini article above :D
Both of those crossed my mind when going through the device manager, however being a rookie I wanted to run my notes by you guys.
Would this work on my rig? (Dxdiag in 1st post)
http://www.designertechsoftware.com/products/microsoft-windows-xp-pro-sp3-oem-download
Is it a full re-install CD? I don't know what OEM stands for. I am perfectly fine re-installing windows and 'wiping the slate clean' on my computer, that isn't a problem. I just want to make sure I get a CD that re-installs windows XP and makes it 'like a new computer', at least then I can get back to shooting planes :joystick:
I am fully aware of XP being 'abandoned' in April 2014. However, this computer is nearly 15 years old, so I'm not going to pay 100+ for windows 7, when I am potentially getting a new gaming rig mid/late spring.
If the above link is not what I am looking for, do you guys have any links to what I am looking for?
Thank you for your responses and information, it is much appreciated.

In other news... would the computer I am on now be able to handle the graphics card from my gaming rig?

The first computer appears to not have its native sound card driver loaded either as the DirectSound test failed. That would preclude Aces High from starting.
Also seems to be a lot of background processes running as the page file usage is high, for Windows XP.

Does that include offline mode? Because offline mode I've been able to play fine.
Agreed, but I haven't been able to get rid of many of them. When I'm offline the processes go down to 20s, when I was online it was 40s+

How exactly do I find out the W of the PSU without taking it out?
Do you guys thing the 2nd dxdiag that I linked, could handle the 256MB NVIDIA graphics card?
Just wondering.

The product in your link would work but if your computer already has a paid XP license you do not have to purchase a new one. All you need is your product key (found in the sticker) and a borrowed installation disc. Where it might get tricky is finding drivers for your hardware, I'm guessing that they're not all readily available due to age.
The graphics card in your current computer will work just fine in the Athlon box if two requirements are met: 1) The Athlon computer has a free PCI-E x16 slot and 2) it has a power supply of 450-500W or higher. That graphics card is an extremely poor performer so you could get a large performance boost with the Athlon box using a newer cheap card (80 bucks category) like Radeon R7 260.
You can see the wattage of your PSU usually from a sticker on the side panel.

would a 8800 nvidia work in it? I have one, but my current rig can't use it.
Are there any requirements when you put a graphics card in? Any CD work, or is it simply plug n play?

It wouldn't, the PSU is 300W.
hm... makes me wonder if I could switch some components from my old rig to this one..
Like my PSU from my old rig to this one, maybe that would work?

Couldn't switch the graphics card, it got really hot. It doesn't have a built in cooling fan, and I'm not willing to risk it.
Sigh, guess I'll just have to wait then. Thanks for your help guys.
