Title: Graphics
Post by: Goat1 on March 08, 2014, 09:24:43 AM
 Last night the terrain around A13 and A8 looked like a black pit on my screen.
Did any one else have this problem, or was it just me?

Thanks;
Goat

You either need to enable bump mapping for terrain or turn on detailed water. Load up the terrain offline and play with the settings to see what works best for you.

I didn't have detailed water turned on last night, as I'm trying to avoid a frame rate hit.  But depth perception to that dark water was extremely hard.  Enough so that I hesitated to dive on enemy cons anywhere near the water.  I know a few in the squad were having the same difficulties.  Is the water somehow different on this map?, since normally water isn't a problem.

I have a fast computer with a good video card.  for some reason fps were around 40.  thought it was weird.

I'm sure it's because there are custom ground textures in use. Each texture has a "dry" texture and an "underwater" texture. If you don't turn on detailed water, you end up seeing the "underwater" textures as dark "land".

Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

This is over A13..

Pic on left is straight out of film viewer.. right is after a little tweaking with photoshop.  Kinda neat how the different water depths pop out.

I had everything on.  the water still looked pretty dark.

Check this thread out:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,359091.0.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,359091.0.html)

This program will help you tweak things like color, contrast and such. I've been messing around with it. Eyesight to the blind I say.

It'll either work for you or it won't. If your machine is a little dated it'll put a bit of extra load on you that might make things unplayable. It's scalable. Use as much or as little of the tweaks as you like--or can. As always YMMV.

Here's an old sample of settings and results. I used terrain textures with underwater tiles on them. I'm guessing a few people were looking at something similar to the middle-left picture.
