Detroit Autorama. 50th anniversary of the Hemi. Dodge was there and they brought out the legends. This will probably not be seen again due to age.
OK....maybe I shouldn't have said old guys in the 60s. But......most people younger then us have no idea who these gents were and what they did.

From right to left two standing and first two seated at table the Golden Commando drag team.
Third in from the right Al Adam driver of the famous Motown Missile.
The last four on the right the Ramchargers who campaigned the red and white candy striped Dodge. They were Dodge Engineers.
Autographs: on the placard on the right the Golden commando team. Al Adam Motown Missile driver bottom center.
on the left the Ramchargers. In the space of one month...ya one month these gents as well as Landy and Sox went from
running mid 10s to running mid 8's! One month! That's why they and the HEMI are legend. At that time it was unheard of.

Why does it have to be limited to the guys around and driving them in the 60s?
I bought my 71 Plymouth Roadrunner in 1992 and drove it daily until 1995. I still have the beast and I will until the day I die.
Thanks for posting this though. It's a Mopar or it's no car! :rock

I never owned a big block but my best youth car was a 1964 Falcon Futura in which I dropped a 302 Boss engine with a Hurst in-line speed shifter.
It was the fastest car in the town of Forest Lake Minnesota for 2 weeks (My buddy's SS 454 Chevelle was in the shop. :) )
Identical to this car except blue, and no roll bar.

Colour me gone.....wow! we are old farts!!! That liteweight dodge is a thing of beauty,as long as you dont look to close at the gaps!!!! Did those come with the "seatbelt" windows? No winder just 2 straps.
If you give me a heads up I might just make the trip myself Hajo,I'm only an hour or so from the motorcity! Be worth it just to see the ramchargers!
Rip,those falcons werent fast they were quick! Always was a fav of mine that and the early cougars!

Morf, next year when we come up I'm going to get intouch with Jay (karaya) we are going to meet up. I come up with the Youngstown Rod and Custom Club in three buses.
We make the pilgrimage from Youngstown Ohio on a yearly basis (usually 150 of us) Be great to have you hang with us! We'll keep in touch via PM. We just may be able to coax
the well known kill stealer Shamus to meet up also!
Morf.. read above in the bottom of the quote. I screwed up. OK in that race hemi Plymouth Belvedere. radio delete, ash tray delete, arm rest delete, usually only one wiper.
Lighter front end installed to drop approx. 150 lbs. Half thick side glass...and especially from Plymouth, before assembly they would acid dip the body etc. to thin the
sheetmetal, no lighter and no heater...all in the name of performance. Lower the weight.

This I post because it is really really Cool. 32 Ford powered by a 392 Hemi. Take a good look at the engine and blower etc.
See the patina? No finish like unfinished metal. To get that unfinished look before final engine assembly the lady said they
placed those finished parts in a dishwasher! I think the look worked how bout you? The cars that were competing for the
Riddler were being judged as we left. I have no idea who won.

Plymouth went to all that trouble,acid dip and all then they put 50 coats of paint on the thing...... :rofl :rofl :rofl That cant be the factory paint! Didnt they use an aluminum front and rear bumpers also?
Did they have any "altered' wheelbase jobs at the show? IIRC the fords were the first to do it and that was the start of the funny cars,as in "look at that funyy car" because the rear wheels had been moved forward to be under the back seat.
Like I said I'm about an hours drive away,maybe 1 and 1/2. If I feel up to it and get the passport I need... :huh I'll make the trip,would be great to meet up with you guys,even shamus...... :rofl

they were thinner also, mostly not chromed. This one isn't campaigned so they have free reign to modify. This is now a trailer queen for show. Besides that
the average Joe could not purchase a race HEMI. Dodge and Plymouth simply would not sell them for public consumption. They were just to much car. 650 HP conservatively.
They were built for licensed, sponsored drag racers only. You or I would have no chance at that time to purchase one. I questioned the front bumper also.
