Title: Ride-Along Tracers
Post by: Zodiac on March 16, 2014, 01:39:12 PM
Something that I know at least some people would like to have is the ability for a ride-along to be able to see when the aircraft they have joined is firing. I notice this whenever I am trying to demonstrate something to a ride-along and realize that they can't see my tracers or even hear the guns firing. Would be a huge help when trying to help out newer players with firing solutions, angles, or how to properly lead.

I'd just like to point out, for stuff like gunnery the tracers and plane positions you see that are not your plane are only an approximation of what the pilot is seeing.  With stuff like timing gunnery, you're far, far further ahead to have the guy ride along so he can get the general idea and the plane positioning, and record the video from your point of view so he can watch it and see the specifics, because from his POV, everything is an approximation.  The video will actually show what you were doing than what is seen in the ride along.

I would imagine that the latency could be a problem, but I would like the option. At least that way if the guy joins and the timing is way out of sync you could just send him the films. I have found one issue with giving someone films is that the question/answer can be challenging because they have to log, watch the film, form questions, log back in and ask any questions they have. You then have to pinpoint exactly what they are referring to from 10-15 minutes before and try and answer their questions. Just think the 'option' could be useful in a lot of instances, even if it can't be used in every case.  :salute

It might have value, I am not sure.  I guess the easiest way to illustrate what I mean is, load up a video where you are having a good back and forth stallfight with somebody where he gets to shoot you.  Watch it from inside the other guy's plane in the film viewer.  You'll see what I mean.  That is the kind of imprecision the ridealong would get except both planes would be out of sync not just your opponents.  Not trying maliciously to rain on your parade just pointing out the limitations of what we have to work with. :salute

Tracers flies like a madman, why would you want to ride along with him?

Oh I absolutely see what you're saying, and I agree with you. Latency would pose quite a problem in some instances (and it would never be exact in any case) but it would be 'workable' in other instances. That is why I would like to have it in game, while it wouldn't always be an option it would be an extra bit of help for teaching in others.

Edit: I would be happy with just having ride-alongs be able to hear the guns.
