Title: 101 "Red" Squadron, Israel - Recruiting
Post by: artik on March 24, 2014, 10:27:26 AM
The Israeli 101 "Red" Squadron is recruiting new members.

The squadron named after a historical 101 Squadron (http://101squadron.com/101/101.html) that founded in 1948 fought on the Independence of Israel.

The idea is to organize all guys who care about Israel, Israeli history under the roof of the AH squadron.

General notes:

- The squadron operates in European time zone and would attend various European time special events like scenarios, SEC, this day in WW2
- We would mostly fly for allied side at special events.
- We would schedule training sessions and learn tactics
- We would learn to operate as single unit effectively.
- We would fly mostly fighters but we would learn and do other roles (attack, close support, level bombing and even GVing) as well.

Requirements:

- Want to be a part of Israeli squadron
- Respect other members
- Willing to learn

Actually it is a very old squadron that goes back to days of War Birds...

However it was on the decline and many left AH and play other simulators and it is hard to bring them back. However several "old guys" are still flying AH...

So I'm trying to bring some fresh blood into the squadron...

101 Squadron Flew:

- Spitfire Mk IX LFe (which is equivalent to Spit XVI in AH2)
- P-51D - also limited numbers
- S-199 Avia - the 109G6 with different engine.

They look identical to me save for the fact that the lead aircraft is a two-seater.

and B-17

also, MOSQUITO!

Though the VI's were obtained only in 1951. Last ones were taken out of the mothballs to participate in the 1956 Suez war.

PR variant, the first mosquito to arrive (1948 during the independence war. Stolen from the UK, interesting story) and last to leave (1957):

Night fighters too. Black was not a brilliant color selection in the Israeli sun - the planes got so hot that the wood deformed and they fell apart:

Bozon...

B-17 flew for the 69 "the Hammers" squadron, note B-17 tail number 1602 skin there: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,355982.0.html (the second one with the painting of with Mickey Mouse on the tail)

Beaufighters flew for the 103 - the "Elephants" squadron - now flies C-130/C-130J

The single Mosquito XVI had flown for 103 as well, however it was used strictly for reconnaissance missions during the Independence war.

So technically they were not part of the 101 squadron but flew for IAF in general.

I know artik. I thought that by "they" Zack meant the IAF, not 101 specifically.

No... IAF had operated Russian planes only as trophy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_of_the_Israeli_Air_Force#Captured_.2F_defected_aircraft
