My dad was looking for job, after Korean Conflict....I was maybe 3-4...Flying Tiger Airways
He took me along w/him ( I was pretty young, he might have hoped play on Tex's sympathies) and he went to Tex's home(Chicagoland..split level home) and didn't get it, but was referred to guy who hired dad...I remember couple pic's above Mr Hills desk(P-40's) and his boots...not 'cowboy' but wore his pant cuffs inside the boots...boots made biggest impression...

I met Tex Hill in San Antonio around 2003 I think. I entered a model in a show (a J2M) and he and a few other pilots were there signing autographs. Mr. Hill and I chatted for at least 20 minutes. Super nice guy.

He did help my dad...so I'll always have a soft spot for him. And I liked his boots.

Tex Hill looked just like in his last few interviews...bald...ears.
And the boots...I apparently was very impressed, and talked about them alot. So parents got me nice pair of cowboy boots, black with cut-outs to red leather behind...high heeled w/high instep.
Year or so later my mom had to goto hospital, I stood on front seat between dad driving and mom on pass side(yes, I was lil tike)left mom..few days later got all excited.."We're gonna go pick up your mother." Stood on front seat next to dad...but..when we got to hospital..mom had something she was carrying in a blanket..and I had to stand on floor of back-seat..looking at "Your new brother.."
We got home..I reliazed that funny bed with railing was for him..I was in 'his' room looking him over..decided this would be OK if he only had shoes to walk away..went got my best boots..tried put them on his feet. My parents thought it was soo cute..they had no idea...
