Title: Death n' Destruction
Post by: Greebo on March 29, 2014, 06:00:38 AM
Revo requested this Hellcat skin.

Death n' Destruction was an F6F-5 based on the USS Essex in 1945 as part of VF-83. It was flown by three ace pilots, Ensigns Donald McPherson, Bill Kingston Jr and Lyttleton Ward. On 4th May it was used by Ens. Ward to shoot down four Japanese aircraft on one sortie while defending TF-58 from a major Kamikaze attack.

There's a photo of the aircraft here (http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/F6F-5/VF-83/images/Grumman-F6F-5-Hellcat-VF-83-115-Death-and-Destruction-BuNo-72534-CV-9-USS-Essex-May-5th-1945-01.jpg).

Do I detect a wave effect for the aft fuselage panels?   That's brilliant.  I cannot seem to do that!

Yes I did create a shadow and highlight effect on the rear fuselage panels on this aircraft. I made the shadows using a vertically drawn black line which I then gaussian blurred. I deleted one half of this vertically which created a sharp vertical line on one side and a blurred line on the other. Copies of this shadow were then pasted against each vertical panel line. More copies of this shadow were changed from black to white and pasted into a highlight layer. These were reversed horizontally and placed on the opposite side of each panel line. Then the opacity of the layers were reduced to keep the ripple effect subtle.
