Again I've been remiss in letting slip past the 70th Anniversary of a low-level Mosquito Op.

Seventy years ago, six Mossies of 613 Squadron attacked from low level the Kleizkamp Art Gallery in The Hague, which the Gestapo was using to house Dutch population records and identity papers.

The aircraft attacked in three waves of two each with high-explosive and incendiary bombs, to blow the walls open and set fire to the records within. The target was hit, however sixty-one Dutch civilians were killed, more injured.

The raid is less well-known than the raid on the Amiens prison or the Shellhaus (led by the same officer who was in command of this raid, W/C Bateson), however to my mind it was more successful, as the Mossies went in unescorted and returned without loss to themselves.

Those British bomber guys had balls.  Especially the mosquito crews and the dam buster guys.
