I had my 2 week trial of Aces High and really loved it. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) But I can not justify $29.95 per month! I know to have a game this good, and I do believe it is by far the best online sim out there, you have to charge appropiate, but ouch! $359.40 a year. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
Is there any other options out there? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/confused.gif)
-
At the moment that is the only option other than flying the free H2H.
In the following posts you will see all kinds of justifications for 29.95 or higher.
The main thing is it costs HTC alot of money just for the servers and the line for us to play on let alone the programming time. I think that alone is enough for the 29.95.
Is there 1 perk in your life that you can give up in order to play?
The game is worth it and very addictive.
But I am one without an endless bank account so I can understand totally where ya come from.

Damn, and you have been so good for a month and a 1/2. Ya just started to gain my respect.
I guess old habits are to hard to break, to bad.
Dog out..

Yep.

Well Bishop, what you have here is a company of 6 people - just 6 people - dedicated to one aim - making the best sim possible. They are not trying to make everyone happy, therefore thier custumer group is limited to only those intereted in the most realistic sim they can find.
They provide quality product and constant support ( show me a sim that adds planes every month (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ) and server for us to play on. And there are great many other wonderful things coming too (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

"Is there any other options out there?"
IF you are asking if there's other online flight sims, then yes. They vary in price from about the same as this game to considerably cheaper. They also tend to vary in quality somewhat, but value per dollar spent is what matters most--especially if you're on a tight budget.
In the name of good taste i will not provide links to the alternative online flight sims on this messageboard. Email me and I will happily send you the website for every other major online flight sim available.
james71@uakron.edu
IF you meant as to whether there are various "pricing plans" available for Aces High, then unfortunately the answer is no. It's an all-or-nothing deal, excepting the 8 player arena.

the best other option really is not out yet if ever . go to playnet.com and register for a account soon the ww2 online game is comming out to open beta .all the other options have unacceptable flight models ( at least to me) still remains to be seen how good the ww2online model will be . probly price of ah will fall about then also (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) .

LOL its so funny reading the 'WW2OL' cheerleaders putting every other ww2 flight sim down (they're forgetting the small thingy of not ever even trying the game themselves..)
Any reasonable logic should tell those people that no matter how good the intentions of the programmers are, since it focuses on 4 different area of simulation instead of 1 on flight sims, the level of accuracy is more than likely compromised.
And the updates + fixes should come in a far slower pace since there's 4 areas to fix all the time. (Well, I don't think anyone can beat WB 2.xx update pace, even a turtle will outrun them, heck 2.77 still isn't out.)
Anyway, what I really think AH needs is two things ripped fom (but not owned by) IEN and warbirds. Those are:
Historical Arena <--- I like it the realist way, planes of same age period doing the fights they actually did in the ww2 arena.
Right click 6 call <--- another very good idea, which really could have a lot of use.
Early war planes <--- historical arena not possible without those.
Personally I'm not appealed at all to the main arena mentality, it forces people to fly a certain set of late war uber planes, which (as repeated on ubb over and over again) does not exactly improve diversity and gets dull very fast for people like me.
I mean, hello.. All the chog whine would be dealt with if the chog would only be available on the last couple days of the RPS. No more 30% of kills BS on BBS (eh.. notice the resemblance..)
I think the people who yell 'perk this perk that' really want some control in the planeset --> HA. We've all seen it in WB...
WW2 arena came, handful of main lovers whined to death.. But everyone chose to fly ww2. There's no questions left.

He he (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
And I suppose working on WBIII for 12 months and having no intentions on putting out a 2.77 for 11 months would have anything to do with it.
Silly Sid.
2.77 took only a few weeks, and is out.

I would pay $50.00/month for AH...I believe it would have a cleansing effect...catch my drift (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Do what I do, Thursday is recycle day. Head out around 3am (or better, send your kid out)and start collecting the aluminum cans. Stop by 6am or sunrise. Do this for the first three weeks of the month and you'll have AH's money. Helps to wear old clothes and limp a little. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Impress me. Tell me what it brought.
- Fix sticky bomb bug in bombers
- Reduce ammo load in 109F (has double ammo)
- Fix otto gunners in B25H/J Damage Model (they don't exist)
- Correct armor in 109 series (109s are backwards for pilot armor)
- Fix Center of Gravity (CoG) for the P47. Won't take off when heavy loaded, shakes apart.
- Easy Mode CV landing bug.
- Lower points awarded for destroying parked aircraft (changed from 1000 to 25 pts each.)
- Added more terrain names
- Update credit screen
- Change the copyright to 2001 on all screens and update all text files.
- Disable the INSERT key
- Authorization Software (replaced the iLZ)
- Otto gunner code revised, simpler strength settings
The two points that are in bold type are the reasons for the patch. The rest of the stuff are bugs they've known about for a very long time, but never felt the need to fix.
Not able to launch a heave P47? Hmmmmm.

You have lots of choices:
WB's is 24.95 a month~Software engine alittle outdated but still a fine online sim.
FAII is 9.95 a month~Don't know much about it but apparently the rockets are alittle overmodeled (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
AirWarrior III is 9.95 a month~ You'll puke after being spoiled by Warbirds or Aces High flight models.
Box Sims are about $50 bucks~ Go into an endless cycle of waiting for a release, only to be disappointed by alot of advertised features that never made it into the final release, and pay about $100 a month for your 'release date addiction'.
Lots of choices, only you can determine where your money is best spent.

CC AKDejavu. So it's a patch, not an update or upgrade persay. No new planes, major changes, new features or anythig like that? So to be truthful, I'm not impressed.

Actually, when all the suits got shown the door, they were able to ditch the Ilz, that is why they did 2.77. Remember all of those bugs they are fixing are compliments of the developers of THIS game, iEN is just cleaning up their mess.
edit-There are 2 bugs that were created by the current regime, as far as I know-
1. The ezmode carrier landing.
2. Lower points scores for parked a.c.
The rest are all old bugs.

Gadfly, you evidently do not work in the software development field...regardless of who made the code, you'll always have bugs, and WBIII will show its true colors to the never-ending parade of bugs that invade software. His point is...nothing has been done with WB's since HTC and others have left...
-
My point is, those bugs were never fixed by these guys, in all the years they knew about them.
edit(assuming they did know about them)

This even further proves your ignorance of software development.
I am still reporting bugs to the vendor on software we use to build military and commercial jets, that's been around since 1988 with my company....so your point is?
-
I do find this realy funny getting blamed for not fixing bugs on somthing we havn't touched for over 2 1/4 years.

Oh, sorry sky_bax I thought 2.77 still isn't out because the www sites still advertise 2.76 all over.

I guess theyre so busy building WBIII that nobody looked into the pages. Silly me.
-
Rip, guys have been requesting for these bugs to be fixed for years in some cases. iEN is fixing them, Imol did not. what is the problem?
-
Hitech, so you are saying those bugs were not there when ya'll were?
-
Gadfly are you friggin serious now?
Do you have any complains about the update frequency of HTC:s product today? lol.
Who cares if those minor bugs were fixed or not, the wb2.xx engine is outdated long ago..
It's just as appealing today as the computer you were lusting for 2,5 years ago.. Sure it did rock, but now you can just get something better for less money... (Compared to pay by hour of course.) I started my online sim career playing 2.75 and loved it. However when I saw AH I just couldn't find reasons why go back in time.
-
Only 3 could have been there
Btw have no idea if they were in 2.5 but they could have existed.
1. Fix sticky bomb bug in bomgers.
5. Fix Center of Gravity (CoG) for the P47. Won't take off when heavy loaded, shakes apart.
5. Easy Mode CV landing bug.
There other bugs
2. Reduced ammo load in 109F
3. Fix otto gunners in B25H
4. Correct armor in 109 series
Did not exist in our last version 2.5
The other items are not bug fixes but just changes. And btw the ILZ never was needed until after we left.

Thanks for replying, HT. I didn't think that the 109f ammo/armor bugs were there or known about back then, but the COG and the sticky bomb(which, as an aside, I think is a feature, if the fighters guns jammed randomly too) were. The cv ezmode, I didn't even know was there till they mentioned it.
Let's get one thing straight right now. I like AH, I like the work the team does and did on WB. What I do not like is the attitude of many AH players to WB. Anytime I see roadkill about it on this board, I will reply, just like I would expect Rip to do on the AGW(and as I do too). Don't take it personal in any event, but if you spout crap, expect to be called on it.
We are all lucky bastards with 2 real good games online and a bunch of others that meet different persons needs or wants. There is no need to denigrate any one else's game.
I read a bunch of boards, and I have to say this one is the worst for ragging on other games. If you don't like another game, don't talk about it.
-
I have same view point gadfly on other game bashing. Personaly Id like to lock every thread that mentions another game, not because im woried about the other game, but they almost always degrade into the game bashing. Problem for us is we are screwed either way, locking them and we get accused of not wanting the compitiion discused, not locking them and the game bashing occurs.
My pet peave is close to yours. It's when other game devlopers jump in and post stuff about other game devlopers or other products.
As far as which board is worse, I disagree with ya on the bashing other games, happens about = all over.
What the conflict ammounts to is everone wants to belive the game they are currently playing is the best.

Hmm... I think I'm at least partly responsible of taking this thread to WB bashing..
I may sound a bit too negative in my posts, WB was and still is a great game.. IMO its strenght lies in the traditions and the spirit of the player community there.
However the technical side is old untill the III comes out, nobody can deny that. I made my choice (which was more than partly based also on the way IEN handles customer relations) and as far as I know the others who stayed still have a lot of fun with it.
WB will always still have a special meaning to me since its the sim that introduced me to online flying.
<S> to you all.
-
Lizking:I will reply, just like I would expect Rip to do on the AGW(and as I do too)"
Just for the record, my responses on AGW is when a AGW poster misrepresents facts about AH. Also, search all my posts, I've never slammed WB's or the programmers working there within...that's the diff between you and I, Lizing.

DOH! Skorp! Mind is a terrible thing to waste, I'm a fine example of that! For some reason, I get you mixed up with SCOP from Warbirds..hehehe!
-
LOL Rip, no prob.. when I started in AH many from WB asked if I was SCOP.. from what I hear, I would rather have his kill ratio than mine! To make it worse, I noticed a new name in the MA, SKORPIO. Several times today we took off from the same field, and I wondered how many people were rubbing their eyes and tapping their monitors tryin to figure out what was going on. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) C ya 'round.
