I am a bit of a car guy. I think its brilliant. I want it. I want it now.
-
I think it looks like an Audi...
I prefer the Dodge Charger or Challenger.
-
As far as length of service and possible development...uhm...avenues.. .
I like it. A fun car to own.
-
well if you're going to spend that kind of money on a car I would go for an old muscle car.
-
I really appreciate American muscle, all brands from the 60s and early 70s. American Muscle disappeared until the early 2000s
when the Mustang was again introduced imho. Retro is my style. Unfortunately methinks everyone has to have a European influence
in styling. I disagree. I like the Charger, Mustang and Camaro. What has done for 2015 to the Charger is shorten it. reminds me
of the new Dart. Arghhhhhhh. What happened to American styling? Are we now relegated to European influence because we have
no creativity of our own? When modern muscle was reintroduced I said to myself "Yes!! we're back!" Now I'm not so sure.
I couldn't tell the difference between a Kia, Subaru, Honda or Toyota etc. A shame. Now everyone copies everyone else at this point.
-
If they could either drop the engine into a Camaro, or at the very least make the Mustang less ugly and give it an IRS, that would be great.
-
Nice, but it's not a:

Not a fan at all of the 2015. What I liked about the 2005-2014 is that they were visual distinctive and stood out, and the way they blended modern styling with a retro body look. The 2015 is starting to look like almost every other car out there now, and is losing a bit of the unique character the previous style had.
They're also starting to look big. At the Cardinals home opener they had a '64 convertible leading the parade of players and coaches (the opener was a mini-celebration of the '64 World Series team), and I was astonished by just how MASSIVE the current Mustangs look by comparison. ESPECIALLY in the back end.

They have grown - for sure. I was very surprised when I had mine on a Superflow dynometer and the front wheels were on the front edge of the rollers.
Still, I think the 2015 retains classic Mustang lines and styling queues. I think it is a genius design for Ford.
The GT version is rumored by Ford engineers to produce upwards of 460 HP. What bothers me is all indications there will not be a Shelby version, or at least I have not read otherwise.

Wowsers pretty nice :aok

Note the two inch wide flattened area around the circumference of the wheel well. All cars have that now and for some reason it really irks me. Probably because all cars have it.

Its beautiful. Its a 2015?
Its been quite a ride hasnt it? This is what i drove in High School (http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/rr149/Rich46yo/1966Mustang_zps17e7501f.jpg)
I think the Mustang is THE iconic American car.

I think it is supposed to give it a more aggressive look, but that is subjective. For example, look at the difference between an Audi A4 and the S4 or RS4.

Then see the first item.
Along with that, if the owners could scale back the pretentiousness :ahand?
-
It's the natural order of things. They went retro in 2005 and the Mustang looked really good. It brought back a lot of memories for the classic stang boys and Ford sold a lot of them. Now it is 10 model years later and we are seeing the evolution progress. It's cyclical in nature. Before long the Mustang will look like this again:
Then it will eventually bottom out sales by looking like a high performance version of whatever the standard sedan of the day is at that time. Then Ford will go retro again and the cycle will continue. Humans have short attention spans and even shorter memories. The auto industry plays on that trait.
-

Camaro owners are either complaining or complimenting the tail lights on my Stang. I believe its because that is the part they see the most.
I would like to own a 2015 Mustang, but alas no one does yet....
-
I like the new stang. I wish they would have defined the grill a bit more with some recess, but I get why it is that way. Makes it a bit more aerodynamic.

If you're going fast enough that the top speed will matter, let me know where you are, because I would love to do 150+ without getting nailed by the cops. Because just FYI, sitting in a traffic jam in front of a Camaro doesn't count.

He is in Germany. Autobahn. No speed limits.
A co-worker of mine lived there and I got to ride in his BMW 7 series at 155 for quite a ways. He got flashed by a Porsche, which flew by us like we were sitting still. FUN!

Ah, so it is indeed fashion. Booooo.
Now I dislike it even more.

It's always fashion.
We tell our kids, "Cars today are all the same"
They always are! 60 and 70's were broad flat front fender tops, high shoulders and flat deck lids. ie: coke bottle
All the same...Every manufacturer.
Same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
PS: I hate the styling too.

Agreed! I think ford is doing a branding look with a Euro feel to it,the japanese manufactors started this a few years back when Lexus pushed to get the beemer owners in the showrooms.
I saw a camero convert the other day, roof was up.....UGLY..... Why wouldnt they use a convert hardtop is beyond me....oh ya no room in the trunk for it!
:salute
PS: my fave stang is the 66 fastback.

I have eclipsed 300 KPH a few times... but I don't do it regularly. The car isn't setup for that kind of speed but it does have the power to get there. FTR, I have not held the throttle open long enough to see what it will do. 190 MPH is fast enough.

It's trendy with the manufacturers me thinks. Except the French automakers.. they don't get it.
Wide and low stance projects a powerful image with sports cars. Again, it may not be for everybody but obviously, the marketing departments aren't stupid
-
One thing that was great about a certain motor car company that died with it's founder, which I won't name because I don't want to hijack, was the design of it's models wasn't dictated by fashion, it was art.

It's not just sports cars, pickups, suv's, vans they all have those fenders now. Don't get me wrong I think the new mustang is the best looking one since the 70's mach I.

I won't disagree with that.. especially the new Chevy truck line. It sells dude. You don't have to like it.

EDIT: Wrong thread

Fair enough. Though you still haven't said how this will benefit the community.
This thread is great. It is about the new Mustang and related to car design in general. If you have an issue with me, you are welcome to send me a clever PM.

I have no idea how, but I somehow didn't notice I was in the wrong thread, and quoting the wrong person.
EDIT: Not sorry any more

LMAO

I'm so fixated on the 68-70 Stang body styles, and just love the '05 style I have, that it's hard to wrap my arms around the new design. Not that it isn't awesome, it is, I just have to not bias it with my opinion of what "I" think a Mustang should look like. It's a great looking car.

forget the mustang, the new SRT Challenger is coming soon!!

Hey, Skuz, I saw a Cobra driving South in Flower Mound as I was dropping off the missus at work this morn and thought of ya.

Ammo, I agree regarding the Shelby, we had a 2011 for a short time that I really was impressed with. I think personally that they are going to do a Shelby or high performance model, in the 6 to 700 bhp range. Why wouldn't they, they have sold pretty well, and it looks bad on them not having a competitor for the Z28, ZL1, etc from the Camaro line.
I do like the new body style of the 2015/16 Mustang, and I also really like the whole turbo 4 motor idea for the entry level models. Even this engine will have far more HP/torque than the original 5.0l engine in the late 80's and early 90's models, pre 1993 and the subsequent modular 4.6's. It'll be a neat car for the tuners, it should be fairly cheap for the base model with the turbo 4, and just wait until the mods start coming out for that one. I predict it'll be the new "it" car for modders. The 2.3 Ecoboost going into the entry level models will have a twin scroll turbo, so torque and HP should be on tap a lot lower in the RPM range, and is rumored to put out 300hp/300torque, which is amazing from such a small 4 cylinder motor for an American car - that is in the range of the best "Euro" high performance engines in the 2 liter range. It also is going to get 35 mpg so they are saying, left stock. Now THAT is quite a car for the price it's going to come in at. Now imagine a little work done to that motor, it won't take much in terms of mods, programming, and perhaps higher boosting turbos to put that thing into the 4 or 450HP range, or in fact much higher. Exciting times for drivers looking for a car to mod, a great alternative to buy American and have a very, very improvable car.

i hated this style when i first saw it. it's grown on me a bit. i need to see it in real first. it was the same for me with the newest vette....hated them in the pictures. there's 3 running around cherry hill. gun metal grey.....gorgeous....white... ..kinda blah.....and a deep sky blue one. THAT one if fracking GORGEOUS. i will be test beating one of the new stangs though\
::EDIT::
i almost forgot....if you dig deep enough, you might just find something referencing the ford mondeo in your search for the platform that this stang is built on. :noid
-
It took a bit of staring at the lines on the car for me to decide if I liked it while I was at the CLE Auto show, but it's definitely grown on me. I'm curious about the IRS setup, I've had fox bodies, sn197, and sn95 cars with the live axel, and drove a couple 03/04 Cobras with the irs. Didn't really care to much for it in those cars, but that was more of an adapted IRS.
I think one thing to point out is this will be the first year the Mustang becomes a global car, and that plays into styling as well. I worked in the engineering dept for Honda for 9 yrs, and while I worked in a durability and quality group I knew many of the designers, as for honda/acura products there was always a different styling goals based on the market the vehicle was going to be sold in. Global cars are PITA.
It will be interesting once all the details are released, I've read line lock will be in the track apps, the 2.3EB, 5.0, 3.7, and potential for the 3.5EB from SHO. I'd love to see a 5.0Twin Turbo EB setup for a Mach 1 version but that's just me.

I can see no reason from my foxhole why Ford wouldn't continue manufacturing a Shelby Mustang. There is money in it, a following, and as you state, the competition. Still, I think we would have heard something - yes or no. The fact that we haven't heard a distinct "no" encourages me.
-
Ford is either hoping the Shelby will go away, or they are being very tight lipped about something they are up to.

there could be reliability issues with the irs when coupled with nearly 700hp?

You got a point there!
Edit - I read a rumor back in January that the super mustang would be a no frills "Boss" car extremely lightened down to the 3000 lb range with a highly tuned coyote engine. Even so, it's still conjecture
-
You got a point there!
And probably an accurate one. Not that I've heard anything either but it's starting to feel like a DejaVu again with the way they are packing the horses in. The kabash has to be coming soon.

It is often added to sporty vehicles to allow for extending the fender more easily. Either by mounting a fender flare extension, or rolling out that flattened part.

So what's the Honda Prius' excuse for having them?
-
Aside from any design cues, it does add more stiffness to the arc of the wheel well. It might also be an aerodynamic aid, for some cars.

surly you aren't calling that abirition sporty, are you? that's more like someone needs to be stabbed in the knee caps with an icepick for ruining a perfectly good car......

I've just now realized this. Mustang fanatics don't get their pleasure out of having a nice car, they get their pleasure out of saying that others' cars are worse.

I got sick of working for my vehicles so now I only drive/ride cheap functional stuff. My 2003 4ltr Falcon is plenty of car for an old fart for me and it was only 3 1/2 grand when I bought it. The only expense in the last few years was a coil pack at less than $200

i went through a phase like that. i was daily driving a 1993 geo prism. when i went to visit a friend in hazelton pa, there were a lot of hills. i had to turn off the ac to maintain highway speed going up some of them, lololol.
-
the 4ltr 6 cylinder has no power problems for road use and it's as economical as my N13 Nissan Pulsar for highway use. It's a bit thirsty around town though.

The old iron warhorse in that falcon kept surprising many when its HP just kept climbing each new model. It has great mid-range but the stick a snail on it and it becomes a real beast! I just wish they were not forced to use the old chassis from the AU.
I did convince a mate from Hong Kong, who was going to make the typical Camry buy, to tryout and pick up a BFII Falcon after I showed how little difference in running costs there was between them, and how fun the falcon was to drive. And that was me being a Holden fan...
I Love Aussie cars and am so sad that 2016-17 will be the end of it all.

Not really sure a 4 liter inline six falcon is anything like a prism since it is rear wheel drive and available with up to 416hp in stock form.
I really want to get hands on a barra inline six.
