Title: Skin Request - Raubatz FW-190
Post by: Vraciu on April 24, 2014, 11:40:15 PM
Knight's cross winner.  Buff hunter.    JG300.   His airplane is featured in a painting by Keith Ferris at the Smithsonian.

I have this one on my wall.  It is the reverse view of the painting at the Smithsonian and it is gorgeous.  Ferris did at least three from different perspectives and times in the mission.

For Devil505....

(I spelled RAUHBAUTZ wrong.  Didn't catch it until it was too late.  Sorry. Someone told me it meant, "Rascal" basically.)

Also, Keith Ferris did a number of paintings featuring Bretschneider's 190 ("A Test of Courage", "Fortress under Fire" -- the mural at the Air and Space Museum -- "Trouble", below...and the one above, "Rauhbautz, Marie, Special Delivery, Bonnie B").

I lean toward no red on the bottom of the cowling.   Still looking for a photo to prove my assertion wrong....

Painting below: "Bretschneider's End" by Jim Laurier.

God bless you!   Thanks so much for being willing.  It is a worthy subject for a lot of reasons.  Can't wait to see you do it.   :aok  :salute

Definitely no red on the cowl. Also, it looks like there is some sort of fairing over the 13mm gun channels on the forward cowling. Probably had the MG's deleted.

Wow.  You picked that up fast.   I never noticed the fairings except maybe subliminally.   Definitely not consciously.  If you had not said so I would never have seen it...

The cowl bulges stayed even without the guns?   I guess this deletion was a weight saving measure...

Hey devil, any word on this one?

I'm making the first 190A8 now - Heinz Bar's Red 13. This will be skinned soon after. Probably within the first six skins for the A-8s I have planned.

Unfortunately skinning and submitting time has been short, but that comes with living and working in a summer resort area - actually there's been a lot of the other kind of skinning (giggity)  :devil

The cowling being red would've been sweet looking.

Thank you Devil. Heinz Bar's Red 13 is way over due in this sim. He's my favorite Luftwaffe pilot and always seems to be overlooked.  :aok

I am not really a fan of that for some reason.   Maybe if I compared them side by side....    I suppose it is possible it was like that at some point but I have no photographic evidence.   Perhaps Keith Ferris knew something we don't.

No...the cowl was not red.

When he flew Yellow 1 his underside cowl was indeed Yellow.  But never Red.  Artistic choice only...until the day a first hand account or photo surfaces.

Close.  'Street Fighter' or 'Tough Guy' would be even more close.   :aok

It deserves a good home. Back in the day it was hanging between a P-47 and an F4U at my house.  ;)

It's still on the list, but I haven't started this specific scheme yet. But I have finished the A-8 template. But this semester is very intensive for me, thus time for skinning has been limited.

Understood.  No pressure.  Ha ha.  :)

Any luck on this one or didn't request a bridge too far?

It's in the paint booth, but not so much progress to show yet. The current A-8 project, a very late war Jg 301 bird,  is very far along but very complicated. Once that's done, I  can dedicate time to this one. It will go pretty quickly from there.

I appreciate that.  If it is too much, dump it.   I just thought it had a story to tell...

You are still da man regardless.   <S>
