Title: 40M Nimród.

This is a Hungarian built Self propelled gun built under license from a Swedish design called Luftvärnskanonvagn L-62 Anti II.

The Luftvärnskanonvagn L-62 Anti II was built for Finland & they called it the Landsverk anti-II or L-62.

135 Units were built it had a 40MM Bofor cannon it was designed to be a Flak gun as well as a tank destroyer & did alright in both rolls until the Russians rolled out the T-34. At that point it was only used in the AAA roll. The gun appears to be hand cranked for elevation & could swing down to minus four degrees & up to eighty five degrees. 360 degree traverse at this point in time I am not sure if it was hand cranked around or powered by a motor. Also don't know the traverse speeds on this platform yet to see if it as fast as the Ostwind or not. :aok It also could shoot rocket grenades from its gun. :rock

Best part about this vehicle it would be eligible for early war & could hold its own in late war.  :aok

Well hell, Lyric has done half the work for HTC, I guess they have to model it now. It would be a shame to let all that hard work go to waste.  ;)

+1! More targets for my bombs! The gun it mounts has better ballistics than those of the Ostwind, so it'd be quite lethal.

Just curious, what chassis is that? Is it proprietary
to this vehicle??? Don't remember seeing it before..

Looks like Swingarm and vertical coil spring suspension,
with medium sized roadwheels and return rollers..
Should be a good amount of wheel travel, Very nice..
Fairly wide track for it's size too!

Better than most tanks of the period,
actually quite modern looking!

The chassis is made from Hungarian 38M Toldi tank & that was also made under license from the Swedish Landsverk L-60B tank. The Nimrod chassis is longer though.

After I found the above link I realized unlike the Ostwind & Wirbelwind there is no place inside of this vehicle for a crewman to pass ammunition up from below from a storage area.
So had me thinking why a six man crew?
Driver two loaders a spotter & :headscratch: why on earth would you have two gunners positions?

Then I found this bit of information on a Finnish sight for their version of the gun.

So it was all hand cranked meaning that the two gunners had two different jobs. One for cranking the gun in the vertical & one for rotating the turret.

Youtube is so helpful & I found a British Bofors in a video that was built off of the Swedish design in 1940 same time frame as the Nimrod. It also shows the gun sights as well.

Well, seems like every Bofors mount I ever saw, had a Gun Trainer, and a Gun Layer..
No matter the country, or the mount, Single Doubles and Quads..
(Axis and Allies both used the Bofors 40mm)

I think around the Vietnam era, in power turrets, they finally went to a single
gunner with dual axis control..

The British used it heavily in North Africa as an Antitank Weapon firing solid shot..
It was very effective..

I did find the type of Gun sight the Hungarians most likely used it was made in Hungry & it was called the m 34/38 juhasz-gamma loelemkepzo.
They called it the Gamma for short.
There was a few made by several countries around the same time Poland,Belgium,Sweden,Finland.
They all look very much the same & seem to have the simple cross hairs.

Have not found the information yet on the Traverse speeds for the Nimrod. I did find speeds for the L60 Bofors that is the English version of the gun & it is the same as the Hungarian essentially.

If the Nimrods speed is close to this it is a lot faster than the Wirbel or the Osti they are set at about 27-28 degrees per second.

Well I do have the traverse speeds now right out of the manual. I contacted the fellow who is in this link http://www.muemlekem.hu/magazin/nimrod%20restauralas%20hadtorteneti%20intezet%20es%20muzeum  & he sent me the info.
Not as fast as a Wirbelwind but not to bad for 1940 either. :aok

I can inform you that according the Hungarian manual titled „Tüzér ismeretek a 40 mm-es 36 M. légvédelmi gépágyú számára” was the highest theoretical gun elevation speed of Nimród 11 degrees/s (8-9 seconds to 90 degree). The highest turret rotation speed was 22,5 degrees/s (16 seconds to 360 degree).

40mm instead of the Ostwind 37mm was also meant to be a Tank destroyer & did so until the T-34 came along. This would be an early war vehicle it predates the Ostwind & Wirbelwind. It also shot rocket grenades & used AP rounds along with HE like the Ostwind we just don't have that option in AHII.

Since there is no Axis AAA vehicle in early war it would be a nice addition & could hold its own in late war as it did in real life until the Hungarians quit.

The two optical gunsights were for the following:


You can see two one (a horizontal and vertical sight) because there were two man who aimed the weapon. On the right side the man was responsable for the leading the target, eg he needed a vertical sight on the left hand other hand the gunner controlled the elevation of the gun so he needed a horizontal sight. The Hungarian 36 M 40mm AA gun was more advanced than the British or Amerivan 40 mm bofors, it had an analog ballistic computer where they can set the datas of the enemy plane (range, speed, angle of attack) and this computer turned/elevated the sights so the crew only had to put the target in the center of the reticle. If there were an aiming error than they can easily correctly. This little thing meant that they need one more person to handle the gun so this was the main reason why the modified the turret of the Nimród.

Sorry I don't. I collect random reticle and gunsight pictures as I research on the Internet just incase Hitech cuts it's ride loose in the game. That book impresses me that it can be found as an Hungarian language manual if you do searches in google using Hungarian. Amazing what I found about the PAK and PBP gunsights once I started searching in Cyrillic. Any chance you know the diameter of the aperture?

I suppose I should go through the trouble of getting a kanji Japanese set installed so I can search that way in Japanese.

I'll bet it's a tossup between 100-120 Mil. I would need the gun in the game and the offline target. Wonder if the optical sight is Swedish or German? Looks a bit like a Revi 1 or 4. Reticle are just inserts with ground in, perforated, or painted structures.

there have been no new aircraft of ground vehicles added to this game since jan 2014.....and theres a long list of aircraft that need an update.the chances of getting something like this... are about 0

   Maybe just maybe HTC has been busy working on the new version,so cut them some slack on not adding a new A/C or GV since 2014.

Crusader AA could be another similar option.
A 40mm Bofors fitted to a Crusader tank chassis.

Would be a fast vehicle with good hitting power.
Better than an Osti I think.

The vehicle's only armament was a 36M 40 mm Bofors anti-aircraft gun also made in Hungary under license. The gun fired the usual anti-aircraft ammunition as well as a Hungarian anti-tank round. It had a rate of fire of 120 rounds per minute and a penetration of 46 mm at 100 m and 30 mm at 1000 m. The Nimrod carried 160 rounds.

The gun had a practical AAA altitude of 3800m(4155yd).

If Hitech allowed the 4155yd max range in AAA mode, this would make a good perk flak vehicle. And if he gave it HE and AP it would make for an interesting close quarters heart breaker when you didn't see it hiding in a clump of trees. There are very well documented gunsights and reticles for it out there so Waffle wouldn't be in a bind over that.

The real issue is the gun, 36.M was an AA version while the 40.M was the Antitank version. Kind of confusing unless Lyric can shine some light on it.

AP ammo:

The 40 mm 40.M was a standard towed anti-tank gun produced by the Hungarian company of Manfred Weisz AG (MAWAG), which was also used as a tank gun. The weapon was a derivative of the Rheinmetall-Borsig 3.7 cm PaK 35/36, but it fired the same ammunition as the 40 mm Bofors AA-Gun.

Main armament of 40.M Nimrod self-propelled armoured autocannon. The vehicle was an Hungarian modification of the Swedish Landsverk L-62 (LVKV 40 Anti) which had many basic parts in common with the shorter L-60 light tank. The Nimrod was taken into the Honvedseg (Hungarian Army) as a tank-destroyer, but it proved inadequate against Soviet T-34 tanks. The situation improved when new 43.M ammunition was introduced or when 42.M Kerngranate hollow-charge rounds were fired from the vehicle. Kerngranate was a 15 cm Igr. 39 Hl/A artillery shell H.C. warhead mounted on a fin-stabilized tube. The round had to be inserted into the barrel manually, from the front, and it was fired with a blank cartridge very much like a rifle grenade. A total of 135 Nimrods were built, most of which were deployed by the 51st and 52nd Armoured Autocannon Battalion of the 1st and 2nd Hungarian Armoured Division, respectively. Nimrod batteries attached to armoured and motorized battalions were allocated four vehicles each.

Another option for a Perked UBER AA Vehicle, probably the best!

USA M19 MGMC.
M24 Chaffee light tank chassis, would make it fast moving.
TWIN 40mm Bofors would give EXCELLENT punch.

It was deployed in numbers, and used in combat in ETO.
So it would fit the parameters for inclusion in the game!

Part of the appeal of this platform for me was that it was in service very early in the war.
When we had three arenas the Nimrod would have been an early war AAA platform plus a tank killer. Since there was no Axis mobile equivalent in game at that time,& it looks as if there wont be other early war arenas best I can tell.

The 40M Nimrod is kind of moot with the Ostwind in game & in AHIII & also no early war tanks in game that it can kill.

40mm Bofors had a heavier projectile as well, delivering more explosive damage to the target. USA did so much alteration/improvement on the original M36 guns and ammo, that they were pretty much a different weapon entirely. USA still paid for the Swedish Patent License tho!

A Twin Bofors AA vehicle would be pretty nasty I think.
