Hey Jaeger,

FYI P-47D40s never operated in Europe. D-11s did and Ms in the very last months of the war.

if you'd like ill add the D-11 and the yak-3, but the D40 can stay. the axis are so out-classed in this setup so i dont think the D-40 is a game changer. everwhere i looked, i didnt see anything about the D-40 NOT being in europe.

The D-11 is actually slightly faster than the D-40, surprisingly both in mil and WEP and is a better turner. The D-25 is only nominally slower in WEP. The D-11 is almost always left out of AvA setups where it can be used because of the misconception. The M is the only significant European game changer in regards to performance.

You are never going to outrun a 190 or outturn a 109 in a D series jug which doesn't mean you can't stomp them if you play them well. With the Russian planes, te Luftwaffe will have their hands full.

The D-40 was equipped with zero length 5" HVAR rockets which were not used in the european campaign. Something else which was not modeled in the game and which is not well known is that the 5" rockets had to be launched before firing the guns, as the casing ejector holes were located as to break the rocket launch wires when fired. The D-40 RA block was built in the Evansville Indiana Plant. The were usually sent to the Pacific whereas RE Blocks built in Long Island, NY tended to go to Europe.

I'm not just trying to be difficult, I just like to see AvA be as good as it can be. You know I have been a big fan and supporter bringing folks in when there is a good setup. I wish it had the same appeal as the MAs. Two sides with low or no icons is the best immersion, not to mention the weather modeling.

Thanks again Jaeger~

everything i read this morning was showing d40's as used in escort service in the ETO. there wasn't much elaboration past that. again ill add the requested planes tonight and i'm still Going to leave the D-40 in for fun factor if nothing else.

I'd beg to differ on that thought.  The K4 in the right hands can deal with anything in that plane set, especially between 15 and 25k.

How exactly Axis are outclassed?

FW190D-9, BF109G14, BF109K4 - are one of the best fighters in the game that can out climb outrun and  outgun almost anything at the allies side.

i would say last night the allies got substantially more kills then the axis with the planeset available..... i spent alot of time re-upping. so did the rest of the axis guys. dont get me wrong, we got our share of kills, but it was pretty one sided to a point. it was very fun though. and BR no one was fighting at those altitudes in the the AVA. most fights 3k or less

'twas a most excellent time!  AvA fights, especially on this map, aren't like typical MA engagements, most notably in that the fights are very low and the pilots on both sides tend not to wander far from center ring.  Theoretically the La7 and Yak3 would be the best planes in that environment.

That said, it seemed to me that most Allied pilots weren't flying La7s or Yak3s.  In particular, Catfish was convincingly demonstrating his mastery of the 39Q, to my especial discomfort.  It's very nice to be in an arena where everyone really wants to fight.

Well since the fights are that low the 109G2 would have been my animal of choice.  Especially with the cow skin, which gives it special powers
