ShadowPlay is very good.  I recommend it over Fraps if you have a recent Nvidia GFX card and it won't tax your system's resources like Fraps will.

Open Broadcaster (https://obsproject.com/index) isn't just for broadcasting, its superior for saving to disk too.

A variety of encoders are available, including the NVEnc hardware encoder that Shadowplay uses (this is what I use for saving to disk), Intel's Quicksync, x264 (will run in software on anything), and something AMD-specific that mirrors what NVEnc/Shadowplay can do is in the works.

https://obsproject.com/index

And oh yeah its open source.

Needs Windows Vista or above, and has Mac and Linux versions in the works as well (possibly usable now if you can compile the alpha code yourself).

I had not heard of this one. Thanks for the heads up.  :lol

Anyone using Shadowplay with a triple-screen setup? If so can you give me the specs of your machine and some insite into your experiences I. E. Impact to framer ates, etc.

Nope but I'm sure you could easily find the answer over at the Nvidia boards in the Geforce Experience forums.

Surround mode is not supported.

Surround mode is not supported.

I was afraid of that. Guess I'll have to stick to Fraps, which isn't bad but does impact the framer ates when running at the resolutions I run (5990x1080 bezel corrected).

The only problem with recording at that resolution is posting videos, since there are just too many pixels for codecs to handle without reducing the resolution. There are ways to handle it like turning the monitors to portrait, but I'm like you and just use FRAPS.

My understanding is that H.264 has a 4096 pixel limitation, so you're pretty much screwed without downscaling significantly.  The good news is that H.265 is closer than most people realize, and it will handle your resolution just fine.

Yes, but a vertical setup will allow downscaling to fit the 16:9 ratio better than horizontal arrangements will. I recently uploaded a 20 minute 4k video to Youtube and it took thirteen hours on fiber. Scaling back to 'standard' resolutions doesn't sound so bad. I don't think even HEVC (your H.265) will help with those numbers.

Please be advised, Open Broadcaster Software now has a "replay buffer" feature, as previously available in only FRAPS and Nvidia Shadowplay:
