This is a great use, similar to the virtual goggles being developed for fighters, though this promises to be much less expensive.
And for the AH world, with a real world application, research and development funds will dramatically increase, which should get it into AH much quicker. (Noting AH may need to recode)

With these devices and remote control there is no limit to saving lives on the battlefield. Imagine soldiers in their Pajamas sipping coffee at home as they drive their vehicle into combat half a world away.
"Captain why didn't you take out that other armored vehicle?"
"Lag Major Lag" :D

The Norwegians are wasting their money. According to Chalenge, the Oculus Rift is dead technology and just a passing fad.

Sorry just learning about this. Why is it a passing fad??
Because Chalenge has deemed it so.
There are dead-end technologies like the Oculus technology that Facebook just bought. There have been many such technologies that fail to draw an audience.

Indeed, the OR's fortunes are very bright--no pun intended. This is one of the better major articles I've read about the Rift:

Also, note that things like "being able to see the real world" are currently being addressed by the Oculus team--which includes John Carmack and Michael Abrash, among others. This is not a fly-by-night outfit.
FWIW,
