This P-40E was flown by then 2nd Lt. George Preddy in March of 1942. In the skies of the South Pacific, Preddy would only score 4 probable kills in this aircraft before it was destroyed in a collision. After recovering from his injuries, he was transferred to the European front as part of the 352nd Fighter Group, where he would become the highest scoring pilot in P-51s. George Preddy was killed in action Christmas Day 1944, a victim of poorly aimed friendly ack.

panel lines and rivets are way to bold.(a lot of your skins are like that) way more then they really are.
personally I think it is way to clean...but that again is just personal....(even after a day or 2 there would be signs of wear and tear....yours looks like it is right off the Assembly line)
I am not saying go crazy like I enjoy...but some wear and tear looks a lot better IMO

Well Ink, just as you like a heavily worn finish, I like bold panel lines and rivets (I am a plastic modeler too BTW).
As for the too clean bit, do you not see the chipped paint all over this aircraft? It will be more apparent once I do spec map for the P-40. Either way, this specific skin is WAY more weathered than the actual aircraft.

Nothing personal here, we just have different ideals for skins. :salute

nothing personal taken... :salute
I wasn't gonna say anything thinking you may take anything I say personal...
but what the hell we should be able to talk about skins we both obviously enjoy doing....
I absolutely agree that there should be more then the "same ol same ol"...if every skin was wore to crap it would be lame and vice versa..... I do like variety.....
the "amount" of weathering is a personal issue so it is not something set in concrete....
I think the boldness of panel lines and rivets are not on the "opinion" aspect but on the same level as say....nose art....or insignia's...
they are what they are.....I cant ever recall seeing a WW2 plane with panel lines and rivets that stand out so much....
you just don't see it....they are very subtle and once you get a distance away they are not visible.
I think if you toned down the lines and rivets, you would have a much more realistic looking skin....
albeit a very clean one.... :P
that pic is perfect for what I am talking about...only the major panel lines are visible its very difficult to see the rivets.
:salute

I like your approach to wear and tear but your skins look blurry on my end.

ya it was pointed out to me, I can see it.....when I redo them I am gonna try a different approach.... :aok

Outstanding. If you toned down the lines as ink says it wouldn't hurt it a bit. Your call.
