thats cool... How much?
-
two grand+ for the whole package
-
Got some great features for sure.

High tech 'Peeping Tom.' There are rifles that cost less that'll still be functional after they shoot it down. ;)

The TV station I work for just purchased one for some of our upcoming shoots. I'm amazed at the quality and stability of the video from the drone, it's just incredible. And it's so tiny too.
Here's some promo footage from a recent car show we televised where the drone was used.

I have the Phantom 2 with the gimbal mount for a GoPro. The gimbal is amazing in its ability to keep the camera stable.
Looking forward to getting it out on the sailboat for aerials of whales, etc.

Not quite the playboy mansion....
Today as I drove down to the boat I pulled off the road a bit to shoot some video and pics over some old beaver ponds. After finishing up the photography I was taking a leak when a grizzly stood up about 15' in front of me. I started talking gently to it, the bear WOOFed and did a little false charge toward me while popping it's teeth. Oh poowonga!! I fired a shot from my .45 in front of it and kept moving toward my truck, the bear stopped and moved off to the side.
I really thought for a moment I was gonna be bear scat!! :O

I'm seriously thinking of buying The Phantom 2 Vision + or the Phantom 2 with the gimbal and go pro. I Need to be able to make a video, add audio (music or commentary), and add custom graphics to the video. I'm wondering what computer program I need to edit the footage? and how easy this task is?
Also, does anyone have any advice on flight range, control issues, and if going with the go pro setup is far better than DJI camera on the Phantom 2 vision+?
Any advice would be appreciated. I know, I know I'm a amateur dweeb full of excitement, lacking experience, and heading strait for a expensive failure. But heck, you only live once right.
p.s. I noticed in the videos posted in this thread that, what i believe is DJIs camera, does not match the quality of the go pro.
Thanks,
:salute

Theres an awful lot of programs you can use to edit the footage. To many to mention. Nor is it that hard, you just have to apply yourself. Get in the mindset that any video is a story and the editing time line on the screen allows you to lay out the scenes of your story. The hard part isnt so much the technical as is the creative.
The important feature of this camera are the manual controls. Auto controls just aren't good enough or fast enough and being able to set manually your white balance, focus, iris, shutter, audio levels, are all very important. Videomaker magazine used to be a good source for the basics of videomaking. But Ive been out of it for about 7 years. Im astounded by the ease and quality of this unit. Its something we videomakers used to dream of decades ago.
I got out when everyone started insisting on HD. I have a full time job already and didnt want to make the monetary investment in new cams and editing system. I still have two Canon XL2s laying around.

I downloaded the free version of video pad and edited a video just to play around and get a taste of it. :x that was fun. then I converted the file to avi and tried to open it in windows and it was audio only. :bhead
Whatever, I'm gitty to play around with these "tools" :lol
Adobe Premiere looks awesome but my computer can not run it. :O
Ill will check out the local store and see if I can get my hands on a lower cost program in a box.

I have the P2 with GoPro and gimbal. My bud has P2 with the DJI camera. He prefers the DJI camera because it will shoot stills in RAW, the GoPro does not. Whichever camera you have you need to have a gimbaled mount so you get a smooth shot.
I find that range is limited simply by my ability to clearly see the quad well enough to control it (I have 20/20 vision). With a FPV set up it would be easier to fly farther away and still be able to keep the camera pointed where you want it. I do not have FPV and am starting to wish I did….I missed a shot of a sea otter this past week because I didn't have FPV.
I have not experienced any control issues with my Phantom 2. Several examples of "fly away" I have seen posted on Youtube, etc IMO were simply dumb thumbing the controls. It does take some practice to precisely control the quad when it is pointed toward you…as with any RC aircraft.
-
I have a couple DJI quads, but they are in the sub 1000 range. I started with the 350 Horizon quad, but it wasn't a very good camera platform. DJI has the best customer service out there IMO, good choice OP.
-
Just ordered one. What the heck...
-
Which one did you order Rabbit?
The FC40 is excellent by all accounts, with a small in house camera system that give pretty good video.
The Phantom line I've been really impressed with, like I said, the 500$ 350 Quad from Horizon Hobby was ok, but there is no easy way to put a gimbaled camera mount on it, and the stock mount for the GoPro stinks. Also, once the camera is aboard, the 350 strains with it IMO, and the flight times even with excellent aftermarket power sources is limited at best. Don't get me wrong, the 350 without a camera is a great way to learn to fly a quad for the $, but the Phantom line for only about 1/3 more money is a huge, huge leap in quality. As happy as I've been with Horizon for QA and customer service ( I have at least a dozen of their planes, helo's, quads, at least a few thousand in electric models), nothing beats DJI, and I'm not even in the USA, I'm in Canada. Their dealers and reps here have bent over backwards for me on several occasions.
You'll have a blast with it once you get it.
