Seadog36 requested I skin this aircraft. It is a late model razorback Jug of the 78th FG, 82nd FS based at Duxford in late 1944. The 78th used P-47Ds to escort 8th AF bombers from mid 1943 until December 1944 when they converted to the P-51.

Damn, that looks sharp~ I see this getting a lot of use. The rivets and panel lines look super :salute :aok :aok

Excellent as always.

Nice job Greebo and thank you.

When approved, is this and the other skins recently published auto downloaded when you have download skins checked?

nice skin :aok
on a side note, I really have never got the almost random brown nose strip on those planes :headscratch:

IIRC it was for the sun, sort of like eye black on baseball players, but I could be incorrect.

Indeed. The bare metal proved to be quite the headache (pun intended) for pilots. The glare could be as bad as looking in to the sun. You'll notice a lot of planes with multiple engines have the interior edges painted in black or olive drab as well, the same thing applied.

Greebo,
Your 325th Checkertail skin is missing the glare panel. Is there a reason?

Seadog is a traitor! :furious
Bezt allu skin to date Greebo.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
The 325th Jug I skinned did not have an anti-glare strip in real life. Although this was very unusual practice for a NMF aircraft I have colour and B&W photos that show it to be the case. This aircraft was damaged in a landing accident and I suppose its quite possible the pilot could have been blinded by the sun's glare on approach. Coincidentally the aircraft I'm skinning at the moment also lacked an anti-glare panel.
Randy, this skin and the others shown recently in this group will probably be available for auto-download on the next batch released by HTC. Assuming they have been submitted in time and approved of course. This is likely to happen around the beginning of next month.

Greebo knows I'm a big fan Frenchy haha! I knew there was a explanation, he doesn't leave big details like that to speculation. I've never seen that before and they usually put the OD glare panel on at the factory, pretty interesting anomaly. I have a few Checkertail books and never noticed.
I can't wait for the next skins update- between you, Player one and Greebo, I'll be in D-11 heaven...

I need to foreward some French juggies to Greebo so they are done right :D
