When I go to a late war area carrier and select any model of the F4 I get the message "You don/t have enough points for that model." How does one get these points?? I can do carrier T/Os and landings pretty well in the TA

You will get this message for only two of the F4U's: the F4U-C and the F4U-4. Both are perked, meaning they cost* you fighter perk points just like the Me 262 or the Tempest.
You can see your current perk balance on the clipboard in hangar.
How to get perks? In a nutshell: Kill a lot of other players ;)
You get more perks for each kill when flying a high ENY value fighter (see the ENY values in the hangar plane list). Killing an enemy in a P-51B (ENY20) will get you four times the perks than doing the same ina P-51D (ENY5)
*=you get the perk cost refunded if you succesfully land your perk plane/vehicle

Thanks. The F4U1A is fine for now.

You also get perks for killing guns, town bldgs and hangars. If you're some having trouble earning them thru killen red guys and want some perks to play around with the pricey rides, go to side with low numbers and blow some stuff up. Many would warn against allowing that method to become a habit...
Or fly the Brewster
:uhoh I said it :bolt:

There is also the F6F. It is better than the F4U because 6>4.

Your right!!! The f4U is the main reason I started playing this game and the main plane that got me involved in aviation. When I up off a CV its always the Hellcat. I fly the f4u like a blind squirrel climbs trees. I flat butt cant fly them...
