The Abusement Park was aptly named. Because it was an abuse of the intent of squad forums. It did not exist for a squad, and was created under false pretenses.

no man.... the name of the "squad forum" was a ruse he is saying.... it was not for a squad...just made up for a band of merry men/boys/girls that had a general like for the game and gave a place to banter together privately which by the rules definition (of said area) is not allowed

As admins if we click on any player name I also see posts in squad forums. As I am reading a players posting history I do not really look what forum the posts came from, so I do on occasion see squad forum stuff.

When we deleted all 3 of BluBerrys AH accounts, we found one of them was a squad unto himself owning the Amusement park forum. And that squad had no people in it hence why we closed the Amusement park forum. No squad, no forum.
It appears BluBerry had created a squad on a shade account with the sole purpose of wanting a BBS forum that he could control.
At the same time in searching BluBerry's account we found out he should never have been playing for the last 2or so years because he had been already banned for hacking. He some how got past our systems.
So to put this in perspective.
1. BluBerry receives a 2 week suspension for trolling with avatars, and had incurred previous suspensions.
2. After a bbs suspension BluBerry immediately comes back and tells us what we can do with it by putting a image in his signature.
3. We then find out he has been intentionally abusing our squad bbs system, to make a forum for his own play thing.
4. He has in the past hacked AH and been banned.
5. He has already been trying to come back in AH and BBS accounts.
His actions are non defensible, and it appears innocent by standers are getting sucked in.

I was told since the game is server side it was nearly unhackable, of course someone could still go to great measures to hack the game, but it wouldn't be worth it. I've never even seen anything that hinted to hacking from my multiple encounters with bluberry either.

Blu's "hacking" was most probably limited to the BBS and not the game.
You could tell by the way he flys that there is nothing out of the ordinary ingame.
Other than that I don't buy what's being sold. But I agree on the reason for his banning on the ground of the sig.

So is every single member of blu's old squad eventually going to challenge Hitech here in the forums by dancing on the bleeding edge of the pyrrhic flame. Get a PNG as a badge of solidarity, while "acting out" in misplaced civil disobedience, as an attempt to make Hitech look bad to new customers, just to spite him for asserting control over his personal property?
Even our PM's along with so called private forums are part of the personal property of the owner of the game and forum. It's like e-mail systems and web blogs owned by a corporation, all content belongs to them. We do click on a "yes" button to accept the terms and conditions of forum use and game access before either account can be generated.
At least the 47 Ronin were settling an account of justice while paying for it with the ultimate PNG. In this case the property owner has been wronged. And everything subsequent turns into spiteful vengeance once light is shined on it.

The AP or the RPs was a welcomed breath of fresh air. An opportunity to meet/interract with other pilots from other squads. A 'secret society' of men (and a women) doing men stuff unbound. Not that I approved all of it, but I have no regret having been a part of it while it lasted.
While I understand and support HT's actions, It is only human nature and part of how nations were created, including the one HT operates from, to have groups defy the Establishment.

We weren't in a squad together, I thought you would have put that together by now. We used it as a place to discuss things from our personal lives or other things going on about the BBS that we would otherwise get PNG'd for saying on the public boards.
I don't know if you are aware of the amount of time it takes to put a website together, especially for those of us that have little programing knowledge. It takes a lot of time and love, which most of us don't have time to contribute.
If you feel the need to tell a group of friends how they should dictate their private affairs, it would help if you were;
1) Actually be a member and were aware of what kinds of discussions were going on.
2) Contribute something positive towards the discussion, not just report every other post you see because it breaks the rules outside of the forum. That's like getting mad at someone in Sears for shoplifting from Walmart.
Skuzzy has said himself that HTC makes a point to not interfere with the inner workings of private squad forums, because they are private.

I am NOT Bluberry and should not be denied a private forum that anyone else can get here any time. I should not be punished for anything he did just because I was the first to step up and get a forum for the other members to come back to. We are two different people with two different sets of rules for the forum. I've been bombarded with PMs of people wanting a new invite. I request that the fact that I am NOT Bluberry be taken into account before I'm denied a forum when I haven't done a thing wrong. You guys (HTC) are free to stop in anytime, since me, a different person with a different set of rules, would be running things. If I am going to be punished for Bluberry's(did I mention he's a different person?) actions that I had no part, or knowledge of, I am going to be seriously disappointed with this decision, as are the buttload of people that sent me PMs. It was a popular forum that would have a new sheriff. I can't believe this is even an issue.
I am not challenging HTC. Just speaking on my own behalf.

If anything it was a way for ppl who met each other here and in game to carry on outside of a strict forum rule set, bluberry didn't moderate anyone, everyone said whatever they wanted to and it worked magnificently well, no need to police/moderate, members did themselves, a few even said I'm outta here...
It is HTC's property no doubt and their's to do as they wish, no doubt.
What several are disappointed about is that it did no harm, none of you not in it were even aware until someone brought it into the general forum and to attention of HTC.
And, it was also mentioned at one point what a squad that would be if all of the AP members formed one.

What about affiliation type forums such as the dog fighting club (dfc), SAPP, and ZLA? Was htc under the impression these were in game squads? These seems to be a contradiction in policy here. :confused:

With all due respect, what is a "squadron type group" or "organization"? An in game squadron is required to maintain a squad forum apparently. There is not or has there ever been squads for the aforementioned groups. They are simply a conglomeration of like minded enthusiasts, no different than AP.

At least you and that shadow forum's membership doesn't have to do what the members of any bakufu did in the middle ages when the hammer was dropped on them. Though some seem to have a tendency towards it with Hitech during this adjustment period.

You ever have those days where you wished you would have paid more attention in computer class? As I'm reading these post I'm thinking, "what the heck is BBS?" But it occurs to me that even if I knew it probably wouldn't do me any good. But thats just me. Ignorance is bliss. Carry on.

I private forum I had set up months last year and with a team of wise players we monitored ourselves even with highly tense back round drama. Woke up and it's gone. With no explanation as to why. :bhead
Where else am I going to go to revolt with a tiny voice or talk cral to just talk or bs without being monitered or having my language changed. I find this rather outrageous.

And it was an answer unfounded in Htcs requirements for a bbs squadron forum. You must have an in game squadron to have a bbs squad. When has SAPP ever been an in game squad? It's a bunch of P38 enthusiasts who have gathered in common interest and fly together every now and again. I ask again how is that different than AP.

The person playing devil's advocate specifically mentioned SAPP. My response has NO BEARING on another private forum. Btw, this is HTC's house/server and that fact is sorely being missed. I figured more positivity from the community, but I was mistaken.

Maybe because HTC incurs the cost of providing the BBS and server? Seems as though they have the right to deny service/access to those reaching beyond their conduct code and TOS policies.
There are endless ways to provide group space on the internet, not under the jurisdiction of HTC.

The only reason the forum in question was deleted was because there wasn't a squad associated with the forum. I have no idea what was the content of the forum.
Dam, This gets under my skin, a players lies to us to create a forum for his own private use, and WEEEEE are accused of bad behavior for deleting the forum.

Would I be wrong in suggesting that everyone needs to step back and reset? HTC is peeved beyond what I've ever seen and so are many players. What I'm seeing happen is both sides are pushing each other to a major incident, not that what's happened isn't. We don't need this to go any further folks, on either side. People who I've flown with and learned from and had fun with are gone, over a silly rule, HTC is getting stricter and madder all the time, and it ABSOLUTELY NOT BENEFITING the game or the player base at all. PLEASE, please please everyone take a breath and let this thing cool off. HTC, please don't punish anyone else, the game is gonna go down the drain and fail if this continues.

Yep, no rest for a forum owners. It's a love-hate relationship. You love the sense of community and awesome discussions that come from a forum, hate the few rotten apples that make you wonder why it's even up.
For what it's worth, I think it's worth the aggravation. Cause you'll have moments of fist clenching rage of idiocy but years of happy mediums. :aok

It is simply because the intent of the "polite" post was not to be a real question. The intent was to accuse HTC of having a not acting fairly.

personally i think HTC have a pretty good explanation, that they really didn't need to give, and people still continue on.....

It's been made plain by HTC via here and PM's that having a private forum in the squad forum area when there is no squad in existence in the game itself, isn't the purpose of "squad forums". Their house, their rules.
I think the issue of confusion and discord is that there have been many of these types of forums over the years, I was invited, unsolicited I might add, to 2 last year before the Abusement park ever happened. One day looking at the bbs, I said "wth is this 190 Gruppe and ZLA" thing? I clicked it. It said in a welcome message that I was voted on by members already there to be offered membership in this "private, moderated by the forum mods, not HTC, area". Ok, whatever.
These existed for years prior to me ever hearing about them, and I've posted nearly ever day since 1999, certainly have read here every day since the doors opened. Yet despite them being around for years, a few of them have been deleted in only the last few days. As I said, I had no idea they even existed for years, so I can understand how they slipped under the radar, but I can also see how some people may perceive their removal all in a quick time period to be based on what was being said in them, and not just their existence.
When the AP was shut down, the perception was that it was due to things being said there, and that it was unmoderated, essentially a place in HTC's house where customers could complain amongst themselves without HTC moderating anything. HTC explained that it was because Bluberry being PNG around here already, when his profile was deleted, so went the forum. That makes sense.. Another person then tried to start up the same sort of thing, but was told there is a policy that "squad forums without squads were not allowed". Again, HTC owns the place, regardless if customers pay them whatever, it's their business and responsibility, right, so if they enforce and clarify rules such as this as time goes by, again, that's their business.
190 Gruppe got zapped in the last 12 hours or so as well. Since there is no 190 Gruppe in the game, this tracks with HTC's policy.
What will be interesting to see, is if somebody, as Dolby said, starts a 32 person squad, and then has 2 or 3 wings attached to it like the Mega Squads of old, and then invites all these people into the squad forum, and the same type of environment exists in terms of topics and unmoderated posts. As I understand things as they sit right now, that should be within the rules. I guess where clarification could be made on the issue, is if private squad forums have to have discussions related only to squad type activities, or if they are considered "anything goes" areas, including critical posts about HTC and other squads and players. As much as I prefer a more "free speech" area, I do agree with others that this is HTC's place of business, and I can understand how things said, some of them by myself, despite being in private areas out of sight from the rest of the bbs and new customers, would still upset HTC. I do feel it's necessary to have clarification on that issue, as it is the heart of the matter IMO from the perspective of the 100 or so members of the private forums in question, before somebody follows Dolby's suggestion and starts a squad for this purpose. If that is against the spirit and intent of the squad forums, I for one would like to specifically know it, as like I said, as the rules stand right now, it isn't clear at all.

GMan, the only question I could see in you question was does it matter what is posted in squad forums.
We do not moderate squad forums. It would have to be something that is either illegal and then reported to us by a squad member, or against AH rules (not the bbs) such as teaching each other hacks, and again reported to us by one of its members.
As for ZLA and anyone else, this thread is the first I have heard anything about them. We will take a look at those cases next week.

We do not monitor squad forums.
The only reason the forum in question was deleted was because there wasn't a squad associated with the forum. I have no idea what was the content of the forum.
Dam, This gets under my skin, a players lies to us to create a forum for his own private use, and WEEEEE are accused of bad behavior for deleting the forum.

Same. Been part of countless non squad bbs here at AH.
ZLA for example. Says right in the description: A place for LuftWhiner gatherings. Grizz started this forum long time ago. Go ahead and kill it HT. Dead space. No posts in 2014.
But you will have to delete a whole heck of a bunch of forums I think if you go by strictly if they are for a single squadrons use or not.

SAPP has been more active in the past, but we still have posts from time to time. If nothing else, the SAPP forums are a repository for films, pictures, and other media associated with P38s. This group wasn't formed to avoid the eye of HTC, or complain about modeling. It is simply a group of people that enjoy history and the twin engine bird in Aces High.
Is HTC planning on deleting all squad forums not associated with a squad? If so could I know ASAP so I can save as much of the material contained within before it is deleted?

I think it's safe to assume that if one of these "squad" forums isn't attached to an actual Aces High squad, it will eventually be removed. It shouldn't matter what it is/was used for or what went on inside it. There are plenty of external free sites to create stuff like that.
Why wait to see if it will be removed, or expect to be notified beforehand...

All this is the galactic opposite of what I expected when I started this thread. :o A good thing came from it though, HTC was able to address the community on a clarification of the rules that neither side knew was being broken.

It is nothing more than the very thing that caused all this uproar, a few players with bruised ego's didn't get their way so they decided to infest the entire boards and now we get to watch it rot away as their influence slowly dies out, yet leaving behind the ugly scars of their discontent. Petty people, online sociopaths, juvenile banality... the future looks bleak for online communities if these are any indication. A shame some grown men are not men at all.
