Title: Shame on the Veterans Administration and the United States Government
Post by: Traveler on May 22, 2014, 06:35:44 PM
Shame on the Veterans Administration and the United States Government.  Veterans who are seeking medical treatment from the Veterans Administration are receiving substandard care, that care does not meet the standard set by the American Medical Association.  The standard of care offered by the VA is killing Veterans. The VA is practicing a standard of care that was last practiced in 1950.
Example:  if you go for a colonoscopy the standard of care as performed by the American Medical Association is that the procedure includes a mild sedative, not so with the VA, currently at the VA, if you receive a colonoscopy it is not performed with the benefit of a sedative, that’s to save the money that an anesthesiologist would have cost.
This is what needs to be done:
1).  Immediately provide any veteran a voucher that  has a procedure scheduled more than 30 days out, Allow that Veteran to go to a modern  doctor/hospital then allow that doctor/hospital to redeem that voucher for the currently  accepted rate paid by health insurance carriers for that procedure.  That will reduce the back log and get people treated before they drop dead.
2).  Raise the standards at each VA hospital to meet the current standard of care as defined by the American Medical Association. Bring the VA hospital level of care to the Twenty First Century.
3).  The United States needs to get out of the business of war.  Stop producing Veterans and this problem goes away.  Each Veteran made an agreement with Uncle Sam, the Veteran promised to do whatever Uncle Sam asked including giving up their life.  In return Uncle Sam promised to take care of us if we were injured.  I up held my end of the deal and it seems to me and  a lot of other Vets that Uncle Sam is coming up short on his end, and not just a little short.  We want real health care, state of the art, the same that the President of the United States receives and have him, get his next check up via the local VA and see how quick the system improves.

Dear American taxpayer,

Thank you for footing the bill for the excellent health care I received (and still receive) from the Veterans Administration health care system. I have absolutely no complaints.

Truely,

A living, post heart attack veteran

VA is in shambles. Poor (if appointment available) treatment.
300,000 backlog of injured vets cases pending.
It never has been that great, but is in worse condition ever.
I got so tired of waiting for appointments, I gave up.

We should force Congress to get their healthcare at the VA, things would change very quickly.

I thought we should force them to use only obamacare.  Either way half of them would die off the first year...

Oops I have trodden in skuzzy's honeypot...

I'm not a big fan of our Health Care Industry. I have personal reasons. I will say that the treatment my grand father receives from the V.A. is more of a joke than anything ive ever witnessed health wise. His prescriptions never arrive on time, if at all. The doctors are constantly changing what he takes and it even caused him to be hospitalized after two different VA doctors gave him meds that interacted with one another causing him to become anemic. We have since left the VA and using another doctor for his care. Its ashamed he, much like many others, is treated in the fashion that he is for his service to the country.

With that said I learned a lot from taking him to his visits. Our government is as big a joke as those who entertain it. It gripes me that money is funded to agencies like Planned Parent Hood, the bottom feeders of society whose way out of their mistake is murder under the guise of medicine, government funded.

You know whose fault it is? Ours. Not Obama or Bush or Pelosi or Reid. We have let it happen to ourselves by "turning the other cheek" on corrupt politicians and their cronies.

But they will continue to divide our country with political indifference, racism, sexual orientation, religion and ethnic background. Thats exactly what the powers that be want. Remember that together we stand, divided we fall. As long as we are all against one another we will continue to eat the crow.

if you really want to make a difference or change things then you already know who to contact.  there's no point to bring it here as there is really nothing that can be done in here.  and dont give me that let's make aware arguments.  making aware in situations like this does absolutely nothing without change.  so if you want change then you already know who to contact.

I choose to go to regular doctors and pay out, instead of using the VA.  :)

22years after my first visit to the VA, I'm still alive thanks to them! Salute to all the very caring providers that have kept me that way!

That said,, they are understaffed! Terribly !  They need more clerks and more doctors!
I don't know why tho, they have a large enough budget yet have been under a hiring freeze for the most part for a long time,,,  thousands of VA jobs are open and not filled,, no one seems to know why?

Want to see more on how the VA is a joke look at the new VA hospital in Denver. Started out to be $600 million, will be around $1.2 billion and should have been done in 2015, but may not be till 2017. The VA can't manage health care how can they build a hospital :bhead
