Title: more realistic game play, different colored tracers, con trails, flares
Post by: alpini13 on May 30, 2014, 06:17:45 PM
in world war 2 different sides used different color tracers for different guns in aircraft...colors could be red,orange,orange/red,white,blue green..that i know of, each specific plane with its gun load out should have the correct color tracers for it.  additionally  alot of aircraft had the ability to fire a colored flare, to signal an attack or other communication. this could be used in game for large bomberer formations or in a staged mission attack to signal some part of the operation. and at altitude....condensation trails........watch the last 15 mins of this color footage....althought the  name says 1944,if you look at all the usa aircraft(fighters and bombers) the insignia is outlined in red...im pretty sure the red outlined insignia was in mid 1943 only. soi either the video is mislabeled,or it was filmed in 1943 and released in 1944....enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg9RHXUPc-g

I would love it if each countries AC would use their appropriate tracer color.  Would definitely add to immersion! :x +1

As for con trails, seeing as it would probably be uber short lived just like our oil/rad/fuel leaks, I don't see the point.  Though I'm not sure exactly how long it lasted... :headscratch:  Did leaks and trails last as long as in RL, like they way it is set in WT?  Or is it more along the lines of what we have? :headscratch:

:bhead <---here we go again( puts hand to forehead and and  shakes

THERE IS NO REASON TO HAVE MULTI COLORED SMOKE IN THIS GAME-----IT WON'T ADD ANY REALISM---NO IMMERSION.
.  additionally  alot of aircraft had the ability to fire a colored flare, to signal an attack or other communication.  BECAUSE THEY CARRIED FLARE GUNS!!!

tracer color is white  because the phosferus is white..this is not an airshow--we don't need anymore colored smoke than we already have

You DO realize that IRL the different countries DID have differently colored tracers, right? IE I think the Japanese used either blue or green.

althought the  name says 1944,if you look at all the usa aircraft(fighters and bombers) the insignia is outlined in red...im pretty sure the red outlined insignia was in mid 1943 only. soi either the video is mislabeled,or it was filmed in 1943 and released in 1944....

The red surrounds were only used during a brief period in mid/late-1943. Some aircraft never even carried them at all as a result. Those that DID carry them occasionally had them into 1944 either due to lack of paint, or because the ground crews just had bigger concerns than whether or not they painted over the surrounds (ESPECIALLY in the PTO). Others you can even see where the red surrounds had been overpainted, and are as a result a darker blue than the faded existing insignia.

im am sorry for lunatics comments, maybe he has a medical problem,or a problem with english...either please dont judge him....MUCH.   nowhere was different colered SMOKE asked for....and some aircraft in world war 2 had built into them flare dispensers......some of the fw-190 series did..the ta-152, the me-262 did and many other...this dosent mean they all had them.....just like not all spitfires have just 303's......but late in the war, more aircraft were getting them.......did guys used a hand held flare gun and fire a flare out of a bomber at 18-22000 ft? i dont know, but some lead aircraft had the ability for flares. were the flares used from aircraft in ww2?  yes.............ok next.  my understanding of condensation trails is they lasted as long as you were above a certain altitude...for bombers and fighters...........do we need it? no..........maybe just have it on one map to see how it is...the basic code is already in game.........the modeling is there weather by chance or specific thought.   i know there alot of people out there that just want to play world of warcraft and aces high and not put any effort of thought into anything they do...other however like a more historical and challenging game..we cant please everybody.  but i was hoping to make a suggestion that may help bring in people and keep them here because the game has things that no other sin/games out there offer.  if you like the idea great...if you dont great.....if you are so lame and need attention..because your lame and have to have little imodicons of guys hitting there head on a wall.......not so great, lol :rofl

Would be neat as well if the cruiser's 8" guns fired colored rounds as well.  Would be cool to see multi-colored splashes from the rounds.

Main Topic :  :aok +1

As for this, it would also be cool to have a sound effect for the rounds of the 8 in, like when they pass overhead (in a GV for example).

in a way ack ack is correct, the large guns on ships(our largest is the 8inch) did use different color smoke to tell the difference between batteries accuracy.  would also be good to have. :aok

It wasn't smoke, it was dye that was used in those shells.  That's why the shells would throw up different colored water geysers from the rounds impacting on the water.

Did the USN use the dye markers? I thought the Baltimore-class we have modeled had the radar range-finding and fire control.

I know the French used dye markers, and I'm pretty sure the japs did too.

This I agree with.  We don't see ANY ricochets at all

Adding color to tracers and color splashes would be very realistic and would really add to the game. :old:

Also give every manned AA gun a different color puff like the japs did

I recall asking for that when I first started playing the 88. It was shot down, I was told multiple times it wasn't realistic.   Even if it was realistic, I don't think I would go for it.  #1 Would make using and identifying your 88 round (explosion) too easy, takes 1/2 the challenge away. #2 In any war film I've seen it wasn't a sky full of rainbows, it was black.    Not attacking you, but I think it should just stay the way it is considering Gun Ship or Field "anti-air" 'puffs', including 5in.

I am all for the multi colored tracers, due to having seen them in documentaries. However, I have yet to see any showing colored puffs, and again, even if they did, I think it would make it too easy to use the 88/5in, and it's already easy enough.

it wont really matter when a base is under attack and you have so many planes around that it looks like a rainbow covention.
