This has started happening lately and I don't know if it's related to my system, sound settings or if it's something to do with the actual game. When I spawn out in my plane or tank, if someone is talking on either range or VOX the engine sounds don't play. Doing the .resetv command doesn't work on it either. I have to kill the engine and restart it for the sound to resume.

That has the earmarks of a system spacific problem. Top third of DxDiag may be usefull

lol check your settings in game. lowering engine sounds while talking on vox is an option that way you can hear clearly as the engine sounds tend to be a bit loud.
i believe it's
options/voice/playback effects sliders, move it to the right as much as you desire.

The engine sounds stay muted after vox has stopped transmitting.

It sounds like your system is the culprit. Do the basic troubleshooting steps first like reinstalling your audio drivers and go from there.

I have that to a lesser degree. Voice coms have the habit to lower the engine sound volume to a degree, restarting engine (sometimes repeatedly) brings it back to original level.
I use a realtek onboard sound chip.

Same thing happens to me (also on Realtek). Often .resetv 3 brings it back but then it disappears again after a vox transmission. Sometimes it is the track sound missing instead of engine; occasionally it is external sounds missing.
-
do you guys have stock sounds or custom sounds? I remember a couple of months back there was a custom sound that would mess with your game.

Stock.

You might check the drivers of the sound card 1st and see if they are up to date.

2nd option is to get a stand alone sound card... here is a 1/2 decent one https://www.google.com/shopping/product/5370613622257591256?q=sound+cards&client=palemoon&rls=Palemoon:en-US&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.68445247,d.cWc,pv.xjs.s.en_US.hKiVy-E3KVo.O&biw=1905&bih=898&tch=1&ech=1&psi=5piUU4CzNYXfsAT18oDIBw.1402247385836.5&ei=AJmUU-WxO87MsQTghoKwAw&ved=0CMsEEKYrMAI
or you could go to Best Buy or your local computer shop and buy a cheap one.
