Title: Great War-era submarine found
Post by: Wmaker on June 02, 2014, 11:36:52 AM
German U26 was found a bit over a week ago from Gulf of Finland by Badewanne dive team. It had disappeared in August 1915. It seems to be in quite good condition considering circumstances.

A video: http://yle.fi/uutiset/talta_nayttaa_sata_vuotta_vanhan_u26-sukellusveneen_hylky_suomenlahden_pohjassa__video/7274070 (http://yle.fi/uutiset/talta_nayttaa_sata_vuotta_vanhan_u26-sukellusveneen_hylky_suomenlahden_pohjassa__video/7274070)
(the link is in Finnish, hopefully the video will play from other countries as well)

Wow.

Someone needs to proof read that website.  All of the words are misspelled.   :D

Yes. She looks remarkably intact for having been "on patrol" for a hundred years.

Good, didn't know how Yle limits viewing from abroad currently. Yes it does look like that. One person from the diving team that found it mentioned that it is most likely the best preserved German WWI sub left in the world.
