Title: Barrel rolls in Pony
Post by: PanosGR on June 02, 2014, 01:41:54 PM
Looks nice but the engine sound especially in long flights must be quite unbearable.

Totally fake, he's not flying at full throttle with wep on the whole time.

Aileron rolls at max cruise settings which is no surprise given the price of gas.

At cruise settings, the Mustang has more than enough thrust developing to do the full range of aerobatic maneuvers without even breathing hard.

When I flew Crazy Horse Lee had me bring the power up to 46" and IIRC 25 or 2700 RPM which is what we used for climb power, this was for the Cuban 8s, loop, vertical 1/2 roll.  Earlier we did rolls and wing overs at cruise settings.

Any airplane can do acro at cruise power, in some you'll use lots of alt to provide the energy needed.

There's that energy management thing.   :D When did you you fly the Horse?

You can do aerobatics engine off too. The AH mustang performs very nicely at max cruise.  My comment was directed at the video and Dave's joke about MA full power flying.

Birthday present from my wife in '12.  Then it was all over.  Had to go back for more.  A huge chunk out of the bucket list.

:airplane: Easiest and most interesting is doing "torque rolls" in and around towering CB's! Its all you can do to keep from touching ailerons during this, as the intense drama of: am I going into this one upside down, in a 90 degree bank, where will my nose be as I exit on other side, all this time trying to keep a constant DG heading! If you try it, only touch elevator and rudder as necessary to maintain your nose on the point you have picked in distance. Oh, and BTW, zero out rudder trim, set VNE in your mind before grabbing the throttle and make sure you leave note for mom and dad on pillow!
