Title: Wiki
Post by: Saxman on June 04, 2014, 11:36:27 PM
What's up with the Wiki? All of the pages are displaying things like this:

Quote
{{#if: B-29.jpg | }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:Super Fortress| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:United States| }} {{#if:Boeing| }} {{#if:Ten crew| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }} {{#if:| }}

Which makes some parts of the page (especially the specs) incredibly hard to read. I can't vouch for Chrome, but it definitely happens in both Firefox and IE.

Here is the answer I got http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,356333.msg4744347.html#msg4744347 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,356333.msg4744347.html#msg4744347)

Short answer, someone has to fix the template.  I would, but I don't know how.

We were forced to upgrade the Wiki due to security problems with the older version. Many of the older templates are not compatible with the current version of the Wiki code.

They need to be re-written.  Unfortunately, the people who created those templates appear to have moved on and it does not seem we have anyone left who can fix them.

Skuzzy to me the broken wiki pages looks worse to a potential subscriber than no information at all.

I agree.  I have been trying to fond someone who can fix the templates.  If we cannot find someone soon, I am going to recommend the Wiki be taken down.

What kind of know how does it take to fix them?

To me, the ideal solution would be a system that imports the plane data directly from the game.  Whatever loadout shows up in the hangar, will show up on the data sheet.

If you can't do that, another solution would be to put up some template where someone could just enter the loadouts as they show up in the hangar.  Then a staff member, or a volunteer or two, could fill in the information.  Make a spot for notes, and all the extra written information about the vehicle could be copied over.

A fresh install of the CMS would be best when the templates go wonky...

Then attempt to use the current database already on hand to use. The CMS should be able to automatically take the current database and upgrade it to the current version. Otherwise, fresh install a copy of the wiki of the version in which the database is paired with and attempt upgrade again...

The Wiki update failed on the conversion of some of the templates and a fresh install made it worse.

In the notes, the update did state there could be backward compatibility issues.

If I recall correctly, was it not Mr.Fork, Rolex, Murdr and moot who built/designed the original data templates for the aircraft, ground vechicle and boat section?

If one looks at a particular wiki page's history, they can look back at who the original couple first page authors were....

I've only ever edited / added / updated information a few times, myself...

Edit: all that is really needed is a newly updated designed data templates which can be uploaded/inserted then reload the data, pictures, info, etc... Or go and manually edit / rewrite each page individually, with doing it this way once you figure out the new wiki coding , one can copy & paste to all other AC, GV, etc..page...

I think it is fixed now, for the most part.

If it is, thank Murdr for the help.
