Title: Can I delete "temp" files off my hard drive without screwing things up?
Post by: Scherf on June 06, 2014, 03:17:49 AM
Something's eating the disk space on my XP machine. (Yeah, it's old, but it works.) I suspect a lot of is the assorted temporary files for internet downloads, bloody google earth, etc.

Can I delete the temp files without causing some kind of bloody disaster?

Thanks.

You may have some .zip files that were uncompressed there as part of a download that you may want to keep, but other than that,  yeah empty c:\temp if you want.

Go find an app called CCleaner from Piriform.com. It'll take care of this stuff for you.

**Oh yeah, go find your \Application Data folder too (in c:\Documents and Settings). There may be crash dumps in there, and they can be huge.
