May be worth noting that I tried to download a sound pack but quit due to all the fine print I didn't understand. I deleted aces high then was able to download it again still have same problem.

You just may have a crappy connection tonight. Best way to check is to download and install PingPlotter (http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_1.exe). Its a free program you can use to test the ping time to HTC's servers.

After installing type this address in to the box at the top left, 71.252.137.149 then set it to ping every second for about 5-10 minutes. If you have any hops in the red, or consistent packet lose its your connection. You can take a screen shot and post the picture here if you want some of us to look at it for you.

I have no anti virus. I use my computer strictly for aces high. Ill do the ping plotter and I'm guessing my connection may be the issue (I hope).

Will a bad internet connection allow me to enter any given arena, see a few text, change fields then disco? I apologize but I don't have any sense what so ever about computers. I bought this computer new in March and I have never done anything but aces high on it. My wife has a lap top and the search engine on my desk top has never been used. I figured since I wasn't googling and stuff I didn't need anti virus.  I tried the ping plot but had no luck.

Yes a crappy internet connection can knock you out of the game any time. I do run a antivirus on mine but I'm pretty careful of where I surf.

When you say "no luck" with ping plotter what do you mean? Did you have trouble installing it or you couldn't figure out how to work it?

Click the link I left and it will start the download. Save it to your desktop, or where you can find it. Double click the file and it will install.

Open it and you will see the screen above but blank.

In the spot where I added the RED box type in the address number 71.252.137.149

In the spot where I added the PURPLE box I set it for unlimited

In the spot where I added the BLUE box set it for 1 second. this will have the program ping every second to catch more data

In the spot where I added the GREEN box I set it for 50. It shows a good sampling in the graph with that much info.

In the spot where I added the ORANGE box when you first load it up it will say TRACE. click the button will start the trace, clicking it again will stop it. Let it run 5-10 minutes.

It's good to run it right after you get booted to see if you can catch an issue. You may run it now and all things will look fine and you will have no issues in the game. The internet is not a stable thing. One day you'll have a great connections, other not so much. However, if your connection looks fine and you STILL are getting dumped its time to look for other answers.

OK, its running now. On hop at the number 8 I'm getting an indication of between 40 and 60% packet loss. My ekg looking thing down at the bottom shows spikes in it???

What is the server name/DNS location for hop 8? If it has "Level3" in it you could be in the same boat as me. Level3 networks are commonly over sold so their are slow downs and bottle necks at those hops. Some times they run fine, other times they drop/lose packets and nothing gets through. If it is consistent you could try calling your ISP and see if they can check the route. You have to talk to someone "up the chain" before they will look, but some do look and find issues that are fixed. In many cases these issues clear up in a few days. Big news stories, elections, and even the Emmy awards can cause enough traffic on the internet to over whelm a tight hop.

Its the first time ive had any trouble out of my connection. We've had some bad storms the past couple of days, heavy rain, winds, power outages, lighting. For now ill chalk it up to my providers service... Thanks for the help Fugitive!!!

Oh ya weather will make a mess of connections too. Just the wind will screw with connections. Get it a few days for everything to settle back down and you should be ok.

The game disconnects you when your connection is bad. The game doesn't cause the bad connection, it just won't let you fly with it. Most of the sites you connect to won't care as much about the connection quality, for example your online TV and movies can buffer the data, this won't work with real time games.

Cremator, as the game is a real time game. it does mandate a higher quality connection than Netflix would, for example.  Netflix can retry packets without issue.

You really cannot do that in a real time game moving at over 300MPH.  On a wireless connection, loss of UDP is not uncommon.  If a UDP packet has an error in the data stream, that packet is discarded.  Lost forever.  So, the game tries to switch protocols when that happens.

TCP will retry.  If the game detects excessive packet retries, it will finally give up.

Wireless connections are subject to a lot of data errors in the stream.  Everything in the environment can impact the data quality of a wireless connection.

I just endured a lousy couple of days with Comcrap. So bad I have someone coming out tomorrow but I think its just a provider issue. One thing you can try is to reconnect your cable hard wires, trying a different splitter if you use them, and even pushing the little cable wire a bit to the side to try and get a better connection.

This last one was weird cause I had all the proper lights on my modem lit, my icon was showing a connection, but I still kept disconnecting. A restart would fix it but how much can you enjoy a game when you have to restart every 15 mins?

Now today its rock solid. :headscratch:

They are supposed to be out today to look at it. I understand, and respect, that the connection has to be good for this game. I hope they can get it figured out. Thanks for all the input....

Update:

I called and spoke with my provider. They came out and found no problems. I called a gentleman, <S>, and we did some trouble shooting. After much head scratching I was given some pointers on some stuff. Turns out at some point I had inadvertently downloaded McAfee, along with several dozen other popup anti virus stuff and it was blocking me. My wife went in and deleted anything un needed and fixed my problem...

McAfee is a virus.  So is Norton.

Worst things you can do to your computer.  The real viruses are actually better to have.
