WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 – The White House has announced that Oahu was attacked at 7:55 this morning by Japanese planes.
The Rising Sun, emblem of Japan, was seen on plane wing tips.
Wave after wave of bombers streamed through the clouded morning sky from the southeast attempting to fling their missiles on a city resting in peaceful Sabbath calm.
Fortunately, our gallant pilots of the US Navy and US Army Air Forces were able to intercept this treacherous sneak attack as it approached the Pearl Harbor area. Reports indicate severe losses among the attacking Japanese planes. Official sources have been unable as yet to confirm reports that at least three Japanese aircraft carriers were hit and set on fire by American bombers.
Evidence that the Japanese attack has registered some hits was shown by three billowing pillars of smoke in the Pearl Harbor and Hickam field area. Unconfirmed reports are that a few US Navy ships and some minor ground installations were destroyed by generally inaccurate Japanese bombing.
Further engagements between our brave fighting forces and the cowardly forces of the Empire of Japan are expected as soon as this coming Saturday...
