Could HT inform the community on what is happening and what to expect in the future?
I expect several board members will insist this is none of our business. Others will note they are working on new graphics software, etc. We are aware of this. The question many (most) are wondering is about marketing and the declining numbers. Any updates or information would be appreciated. And let me add, while we are not "the board of directors" for HT in the corporate world quarterly reports, etc are the norm.
The last time this came up on the threads someone noted that HT had other sources of revenue and AH was a minor component of the whole. If so, is AH not a priority? If we disappear will it not matter, or be of minor consequence?
Just trying to get a sense of what the future holds. I am in the process of supporting a JROTC unit with cadets who are intersted in learning the concept of flight, ACM, team and leadership development, etc as a small part of their cadet training. If AH disappears I will need to find other options, which candidly do not exist as flight simulators.
Thanks in advance and please flame away for those who must. I'm trying to find a 15 month plan for about 30 other people and don't want to get halfway down the path and have to scrap it altogether due to market failure or business model changes. Any information will be appreciated.

The best thing anyone can do is not complain and keep paying the subscription. I'm actually thinking of resubscribing in the near future.

The big update with all the new vehicles and aircraft is due in 2 weeks.
-
As long as this game has been around, I SERIOUSLY doubt this game will be gone within 15 months

All this talk of the sky falling is doing my head in. You've seen all the youtube videos, it all looks pretty impressive and HTC will release it when it is done. Not some half completed bodge job (cough WT).
You say numbers are down? but for someone who regularly finds enough to shoot at with 50 people in the MA you have nothing to complain about at US times. The competition doesn't compare, so get them cadets in the DA and last one alive is a sissy.
I've come from a game that died out, I left 4 years before it finally went KAPUT in the knowledge that the people in charge were morons and the owner clearly didn't have a long term plan. I'm very glad to say HTC have always been on the money in my eyes. Yes all the updates could come thicker and faster but I'd rather have a product that we can still very much enjoy until it is ready.

I'm not complaining the design at all. I do worry about marketing and "enlistment" is way down. I would love an update from them. Yes, the graphics look great and should be awesome Yes, standard military time of two weeks.
Any updates beyone graphics and 2-weeks? Marketing plan?
-
build it and they will come?
-
Let's hope!
If I get my way the 30 +/- cadets will add to the presence during certain hours. And over time, we are going to challenge other JROTC and ROTC units to squad duels and joint missions. No doubt we'll have some Plebes that want to learn the finer art of biscuits, tea and Spits. At which point we'll reach out to The Few....
I just want to make sure we have a realistic simulator to train them on, 'stall deliminator' set to off!

A couple of weeks ago Hitech did some commenting on the update process, and why he doesn't say a lot about it:

Yes. I read that thread and it is great that they are working on eye candy and I noted this. The question of life or death in the business world is that of market. If you lost a market you can have the best eye candy in the world, you're still dead. Infact, many sucky products thrive in this world because they have great marketing. In the political arena great candidates almost NEVER win, great campaigns always do. This is why individiuals with horrible character get elected, they spent the money to hire the right campaign manager.
I love that they are working on eye candy. That aside, what other updates do they have specifically around how they intend to keep the product alive. It is the campaign that counts.

I understand it's not a quick process, but I think overhauling the rest of the AH1 models is a great place to start, as there aren't many left but they remain eyesores. I honestly avoid flying them, especially the F4F which is one of my favorite planes of all time. Flying in the P40C with the updated cockpit for the Pearl Harbor scenario was an awesome and much more immersive experience than had I been flying a 2d cockpit model, in my opinion.

I would think at the very least they want to update the graphics and planes/gvs before they do any advertising. Making sure everything looks top-notch etc, before throwing it out there.

just wondering about one thing. why would they want to discuss their marketing strategy with you? I mean if you go to arco gas station, do you ever write to their corporate hq asking about their marketing strategy?
I work at a steel mill and one thing for sure is they wont discuss their marketing strategies with anybody that doesnt need to know. they'll tell us in general terms what it is, but discussing it? what is the point, we arent involved in it, we have no saying in it. and basically it really isnt our business. just like sorry to say but ah marketing isnt your business either.

However, if a new customer arrived on the scene with the possibility of bringing 30 more customers with him....and wanted assurances that the mill would be able to fulfil the needs of said 30 customers for many years to come....
However, the idea that someone would want assurances that the company will still exist in a years time is purely the fault of 'The sky is falling brigade'.

last time I asked when we can expect the new update , the answer i got was in 2 weeks... And this was about 4 weeks ago...

i don't think this this game going away anytime soon--if it was, i don't think they'ed be spending time and money doing upgrades---and if they were i think hitech would be kind enough to warn us-so mthrockermor...bring your guys-girls-friends-family-the sky is not falling--the sky's blue-the sun is bright-esp when your flying into it. bring your squad, and let us introduce .50cal's and taters to them.

Right. If there's one thing we hold double-nought secret here, its the forward model development cycle plan. Release that and the competition can head off every effort you make. I just hope HT has some good reserves held for a kind of bodenplatte offensive. I'm hungry for baby seal since all the old crustbuckets make me work to land a shot.

We get many people on these boards that are former subscribers but still can not totally depart from the AH world. I'm sure many will get the itch when the new updates come out and this game can explode again in popularity and numbers. Can you say LW split arenas again?
This has been a long development process compared to the past when updates occurred more often but HTC is investing in the long term future of the game. I have no doubt of the commitment of the staff of HTC and if there were a stock offering I would be first in line. :D

I see that as very unlikely. As a matter of fact, I'm very pessimistic - but of course I also hope I'm very wrong with that ;)
But one thing I do know for sure: I will, under no circumstances, go through that old original split & capped LW arena thing again. Ever. You can quote me on that. :salute

My magic 8 ball says there will be 2 weeks to a month of increased numbers as people come back to check it out, then some kind of decline. How sharp that decline will be is the interesting part. I don't think gameplay is going to change much so the reason people left, whatever it may have been, likely won't have gone away unless their reason for leaving was low numbers.
But one thing I do know for sure: I will, under no circumstances, go through that old original split & capped LW arena thing again. Ever. You can quote me on that. :salute
Hopefully people deal with big numbers better than they used to. I'd like to think they will. Hopefully they will need to because the arena's got 800 people in it.
Wiley.

They'll deal with it. Get a Louisville Slugger. Drive some 5-inch spikes through it. Avoid the ho, then club you some baby seal.

Some one say a fresh batch of noobs?!? Where?!?! *gets the spit 1 ready for perk farming*

Hey, just so long as no objects in the game are pre 1999, that's all i am looking for.
Pretty it up all you want, but if i see something from 1999, your dumbing it down.

+1 on that. Leet new graphics will lose some luster when viewed from inside a Ki-61 or similarly ancient relic.

LOL!!! I think he's been calling Hitech a "putz" since AW days. It's an old .....stale...... joke :neener:

I bet you I could could get a few NJROTC cadets in to this. Go Navy!

Umm .. you know why Heater is called that?
Ask him sometime -evil grin-
And yes ..Heater has called HT a Putz now and then.
HT earned the title many times :)
ie: AW scenario ..we were the Luftwaffe and had earned enough points to fly 262's !! ..
..so 4 of our best got the rides. JJ, HT, Twist, and I.
262 is an awesome ride ..but .. you talk of breaking up escorts of 16 Mustangs with two of us and engaging the buffs with the other two
after the 109's and Wulf's have thinned 'em as best they could ..and the damn Mustangs had our 262 bases camped.. it was no cake walk :)
So.. HT and I get first in and take on the high escort ..we go head on at 32k and I *know* the Mustang is struggling at that alt.
I tell HT to ease nose up, 4g max when we are 5k out ..we zoom .. past 44k, punch out flaps over the top, retract as nose drops in the backside of the loop..
..and there the Stangs are ..some fallin in their stalls, some spinning ..a few circling having not taken our rope a dope move.
..we line up on targets as our speed comes back ..HT and I both score two and the rest scattered as we blow thru and down and out.
The intercept was as far from our bases as we could push it.
We both flamed out near 30k alt otw back to our capped bases.
I kept nose low for speed, blasted across field, high g barrel rolled onto final.
Mustangs were all diving in as we had just blown thru them at speed.
HT stalled and spun in on final.
I greased the jet in and got her stopped and got out as the Stangs came pouring in.
Did I mention if we crashed or got shot down we were done? The plane was marked off what we had available?
There were no more 262's .. all we got were 4.
HT spun in.. on final.
All by himself.
Putz.
