I see that accurate simulations are taking a backseat to the eye-candy and instant gratification type games. Aces High provides a player with little eye-candy, but great challenges, because the flight physics are high, and are challenging, and require an individual to actually learn something about flight, and flying, versus learning how to use macros and cheat codes on a controller.

tell him he is a communist for supporting Russian sub par games.

I concur. :rofl

:lol

Is this about the game used or the guy that is doing this for the vets? Because it seems to me no matter what he is using to do it he is at least doing something that these vets seem to enjoy.
-
I threw my .02 in.
-
Honestly, this isn't the only thing Beck's gotten wrong.
Just sayin'.
-
Holy crap HTC needs to advertise.
-
I feel dirty even going to his site, but I will make a post to the effect of calling them out on supporting a foreign company with an inferior product compared to a domestic, Texas small business.

This could be great. I bet War Thunder spents tens of thousands to get Glen Beck to endorse it. Most media is for sale. Those morning shows where they are at some random bakery making cookies, $5k for that coverage. They didn't choose the bakery because it smells good.
Flood the boards and get free advertising for AH!
-
Couldn't resist, another scenario plug :)
-
Dem comments. :aok
The only way this could get better is if it somehow ended up on war blunders site.
-
would that be just a plug, or a shameless plug?
i also put in my 2 cents for Aces High!!
-
I spoke my mind as well even though I've never really played any other simulations.
-
I have done the deed...

I just googled Glenn Beck, as I had never heard of him. Now that I know a little about him, I’m glad I had never heard of him and long for those days when I had never heard of him.
Officers Club is the place for political views. Pay double subs for 6 months from July to Christmas with the extra money going to advertise our sim. That may translate to almost $200,000 to work with. Not a bad little fighting fund to spread the word.
I’m in.
Numbers are down. Game still rocks.

I thought war thunder was made in china.

Beck brags about coming to Texas for our business climate, etc. Hit him hard.

Good comments on Beck's site guys.
Had I not seen either game or only wt, I would be compelled to try ah. Good posts right up until the name calling started.
-
I was going to suggest that we all still act professional about it, but before I could say anything the crap got a hold of the comments section.
-
yeah everything was going good up until the name calling then the posts went down from there. makes you wonder how people really act in the real world lol.

The whole idea of the story was to stress the non-combat scenarios that help the vets recall the positive side of their experiences. You might want to think about that.

Click battle, in combat.
It is that simple, numbers here went there.
No take off's... no landing, no looking for a fight, free.
Truth only hurts those who are unwilling or unable to accept it.
No, i do not play war thunder.
-
As much as I love and enjoy Aces High, I refuse to give that yellow journalist any of my time. Frankly, an endorsement by Glenn Beck is a good way to sink a game imho.

No, i do not play war thunder.
Here is a man who gets it.
That's why I have given up even War Thunder in favor of the light-switch game. I sit by a light switch, and I click it on. Then I click it off. And then -- get this -- I can click it on again! No takeoffs, no landing, no looking for a fight, free -- like War Thunder -- but better, as I don't have to log on, type on a keyboard, move a mouse, look at words, or have more cognition than an opossum.
Billions of people play the light-switch game, and even some animals, including chickens.
Truth only hurts those who are unwilling or unable to accept it. Sage advice, indeed.

Don't worry. You can balance your karma by putting some posts on a Rachel Madow fan site. ;)

While no is perfect, Liberals are wrong 57.93% of the time, Conservatives are wrong 31.33% of the time. :devil

Who cares what a Fox News jaw flapping idiot thinks. I heard Jon Stewart endorses Aces High.

The crowd for more accurate sims has always been noticabley smaller than the more arcadish flavours, for obvious reasons. AH, however, has a few cornerstones to its gameplay which further discourage new players. Examples include the perk system which functions solely as a seal clubbing tool, allowing veternam players to maintain an added advantage, ad infinitum, over new players. Massive maps that make for desolate enviroments under current population numbers in a persistant game world also prove less than inviting (compared to the 15 minute game windows which insure instant action in games like WoA or WT).
Then you've got the added eye candy in these other sims, ease of entry into the games, ability to "purchase" balancing equipment (unlike perks in AH which insure the new player can never be on par), all add up to a model that is more inviting, and certainly more profitable.
I don't recall the exact number, but I believe WoT did somewhere around 300 million in revenue last year. I wouldn't be too critical of the Russian's, they're kicking the rest of the worlds bellybutton in this game space.

I completely agree.
Couple that again with no promotions (ie. Sign up today and get first 2 months free) , no publicity, and no attempts to experiment with player base concerns to improve game play excitedness.
Hopefully these new graphics will begin a whole new campaign model to attract new players.
I am happy to see the explosion of comments on glens website. WT really does suck, but the majortity of people have never heard of AH. The maps are gigantic to new players. Too me and with a society that works 40 hours a week, it's extremely difficult to get people's interest levels up with only 2 weeks time understand what is going on.
I think AH can prevail but marketing, graphics, and promotions just aren't reaching out to enough people.
Luckily, I personally think many players will come to AH from WT looking for a better challenge and flight models

Yep. If Glenn Beck had his way, games like Aces High would be shut down.
ack-ack
-
That doesnt look like it is anywhere near as good as Aces High. I was wondering, now I dont even need to try it.
-
Nimrodd it is garbage, there is no distinct flight model and it gives you an aim bot. Its for like 6 year old girls who want to get into flight sims for the first time. The only reason it gets praised is for high graphics and free to download.
-
I agree. It's like with Stalin. Stalin was afraid of flying and didn't like airplanes, so he had several airplane designers sent to the gulag (such as Tupolev of the "Tu" line of aircraft, Petlyakov of the "Pe" line of aircraft, among others -- although he had to let them still design airplanes in the gulag because of Operation Barbarossa, but that's not the point). When Glen Beck starts his communist/socialist empire, I bet the first thing he does is put all flight-sim coders into camps. ;)

May I ask who is Glenn Beck and why should I care?
I went to the link, saw some comments and have to wonder what the fuss is.
IMHO some guy who doesnt know any better setup a computer so some vets could fly! If no one listened to Glenn Beck,I bet he'd disappear.....
:salute
-
Just a ditty about promoting WT by setting it up for free in retirement homes.
-
May I ask who is Glenn Beck and why should I care?
He's a media person on the right. Thus, some were compelled to let us know of their disapproval, and others (I'm not naming names here lest I incriminate myself) had to poke a little fun at that. Of course, this means that the jokers felt compelled to post about others' compulsion! Drat -- I am now stuck in an infinite loop, like the computers in Star Trek episodes. Help me, Norman!
There is no reason that you should care, and you are completely right that the only thing done was a nice nonpolitical, non-offensive story with some folks here posting to spread the word on the awesomeness of Aces High -- which is all good.
-
When I'm put away in an old folks home, I anticipate some really cool flight sims by then. (Aces High will definitely do).

Thx Brooke but I knew who Beck was, even in the Great White North we get TV!
I got the point and I guess my sarcasism didnt translate well. However the whole thing seemed to devolve into an Epeen contest. Yes I guess it's good to get AH out there and Becks site might just draw the curious but a few of the comments would make me think twice!

see what I did there? :P

Normally I don't like to speak about these kinds of things, but I'm feeling a little compelled right now.
Did any of you that posted on that site actually read what the story was about? Guy going around with the Rift and a game modified for NON-COMBAT and letting the vets play it. Instead of posting, "Hey that's cool, thanks for doing this for vets. You're a good person" we had a bunch of our playerbase go and let everyone know how dumb War Thunder is. Frankly, I'm ashamed right now that so many AH players would do that. Always held this community in high regard compared to other online games, but I guess I was wrong. You're just the same, bunch of trolls. I'm disgusted and really not keen on restoring my account as I'm really not sure I want to be associated with this type of crap. And yes, I think WT sucks and AH is the best of the WWII aircraft sims.
Secondly, how many of you talking trash on Glenn Beck have listened to a word he says? Thought so. Not here to say he's awesome and always right, but he's a hell of a lot better than 99% of our government, that's for darn sure!
Apologize for the rant, but damn I'm pissed that we would do this. Stop acting like little children comparing E-Peens.
Edit: After reading through all the comments, there were like 2 that said anything about the guy going around doing this in a positive way, and one was my own. Straighten up guys and girls.
-
If you visit nursing homes with 90 year old vets you may understand that the least important part of that story was the choice of flight sim. I think Aces High would be a better choice but the guy did good setting up systems so they are ready to fly and giving vets an alternative to watching TV.
Edit: Lane don't sweat it we have good people here they just don't read carefully. :lol

Ah I know it. I almost feel bad for my rant, I just got so damned angry that nobody could give the guy doing this for vets a pat on the back. Had to get their AH plug in and then were done. As a Navy sub vet (although not a very old one at 29) I have a serious soft-spot in my heart for people that do things for vets, and really any kindness for our military. And I've always loved the AH community, can't let a few bad apples and a few bad decisions spoil things for me. Beers all around! And go leave a nice comment damn it!
-
Hmmm....4 pages bashing a political figure....odd
-
Secondly, how many of you talking trash on Glenn Beck have listened to a word he says?
(Raises hand) He's a clown but, honestly, I really don't care since it's not a revelation. Having said that, I don't really think it's about Beck (in spite of two of his iconic images I used in this thread). There are Beck fans and they will be offended, it seems. But meh.
I do think this is, in part, about a cool thing to do for WWII vets in retirement homes and assisted living. I also think it's cheap advertisement for WT (compared to prime time spots or even web sponsoring). I'd love to volunteer to be a target for them in any game (though I would prefer it to be AH). Face it, I think they would enjoy flaming something.
And there's a reason I didn't leave a comment there.
-
Taking the good with the bad, the choice of War Thunder did fit in well with the title, something like putting real Aces back in the cockpit. The video showed a life like animation of the pilots movements, corresponding to the virtual pilots control and head movements. I thought that part was very slick.
I agree with the majority of the AH faithful, that the online aspect and flight modeling of AH way out weigh the cool pilot effects.
But no way am I going to tell a WW2 vet, flying in a virtual game, they are doing anything wrong. I shall leave that to other WW2 vets.

Oodles of truth in the above comments. Not a very good showing of the AH player base in that thread.
