Title: Depressed a bit..
Post by: craz07 on June 16, 2014, 12:55:09 AM
Why is there so much hurt and unfairness and pain in this world man..  Kids being hit as little babies.. Men and women treating eachother disrespectfully.. animals being killed or abused for no good reason.. that stuff bothers me man.. sorry don't mean to ramble on about really nothing.. I'm rarely like this.. just had a chord struck tho.. God is good but life can be so difficult at times..  There may be tough moments but don't forget there is always a bright shining light at the end of the road for people that follow god..   :old:

It is difficult. But there's not really anything you can do about it. Even if everyone not doing it stopped it when found, it would still happen.

You've just got to put it out of your mind, do your best, and keep moving forward so it can't catch you. And when you stop to rest at 4AM... well there's alcohol for that.

The world is a sick and cruel place. Its called Satan. Think back twenty years ago. Did you ever see so much sexual references on tv? Even commercials are driven and geared toward sex. Then there are the shows with countless violence, shootings, rape. Ever heard the song Man In the Box by Alice in Chains? Satan is here and he is winning and his number one tool is the television.

I don't go to church regular and I'm not the preaching type but anyone with just an ounce of faith should be able to see it fairly clear. Wont last much longer.

True. Ive only been saying it for about five. You know it was once thought man would ever fly. Folks said that for a couple thousand years also.

For those who doesn't think the devil exist I know that he does. Ive shook his hand. Came real close to selling my soul.

How do you know exactly what the mid evil times were like? Serious question. Chances are you read it in a book and chose to believe it. Just like I read the bible and chose to follow it. To each his own.

We don't seek forgiveness from you.

I could rant at you about proof, logic, and what not, but instead I'll just ask that you keep your opinion to yourself.

Many disagree as strongly as you believe (or have their own book), and skuzzy says it's a nono.

I guess your opinion, which you shared, is more valuable. I at no time addressed you or the mouse in your pocket, (you used we).

In no way do I care how you think. Regardless of your logic or higher education nothing you could say would sway me. But I would not nor will I ever tell another person what they should feel or how they believe but i wont be told how I should think either.

On a lighter note. I know skuzzy has rules and no I didn't read them, I have now and will abide after this one. Way to go on calling me on it and addressing it. Brownie points for the Crazyor! You get to sit in the special chair during arts and crafts today.

I was poking fun at Craz07. I've flown with him and have great respect for him, but in knowing him, I'm also going to razz him.

You on the other had essentially called TV the work of demons. Put it like this, if there's free will, we're all free to "sin" as we please. If you think you're saved, leave us to our debauchery without judgment; it's not your place.

I've met your kind before, I'm well aware that you can't be brought around. And I didn't tell you how to think, I asked you to spare us and Skuzzy your opinion. Especially given that it's Monday, and by all accounts Skuzzy doesn't like the mice playing while the cats at home for the weekend.

Yes the original poster had question. I had answers that were really just my opinion. You were quick at pointing a finger that I am a Christian yet I pointed a finger at myself by saying that I'm not the Christian that I should be.  And I believe beyond the shadow of a doubt that television is one of the main things poisoning the minds of our society.

I'm not a leisure suit wearing, slick back hair buffet style you may have be portrayed as. I have tattoos, big gnarly beard, shaved head. My boots are always muddy and ive been known to get into some trouble. I believe in and am a huge supporter of cannabis and its legalization.

I said earlier that at one point in my life I shook hands with the devil and I have. My whole life changed about 7 years ago when I became a father. At that point I decided that my entire life was to revolve around her. I changed the person that I was and left him sitting cold. I don't miss that guy at all.

You said you've met people like be before and that we couldn't be swayed. Ive met people like you and have swayed them but I assure you that you have never met anyone like me.

Post Script:

About television and society:

Ive guided duck hunts over half of my life. Up until two years ago business was steady but suddenly there was a huge spike. My phone was ringing non stop with folks wanting to hunt and leases sky rocketed from an influx of would be duck hunters. Duck Dynasty had hit the televisions and it was rated number one. Personally I hate the show yet Phil Robertson is and always will be my hero. But opinions don't matter.

I said that to say this. None of those people who spiked the numbers of duck hunting would have ever given it second thought had it not been for the show. Thats television for ya. Is there anything wrong with people seeing that show and wanting to duck hunt, probably not. Its simply an example of how people are influenced by television.

Sorry, but the 1950's sucked for television. That "wholesome family values" stuff isn't entertaining, which is what the TV is for, that and news.

I'll continue to watch Futurama, and South Park, and Cosmos without being any worse of a person for it.

So you were into some toejam, maybe did a stint in prison for drugs, or something minor like that. Perhaps struggled with alcohol, or just felt "lost" and bummed around for a bit. Then you saw what it was doing to your life and decided to straighten out and fly right. You became a decent human being for your daughter, so what?

No, I've definitely met your kind. Contrary to what you seem to think, you actually represent a sizable portion of Bible thumpers. And you can't sway me; I've seen the truth.

Never been in prison. I gave an abbreviated version of a point in my life as an example of waking up to reality and leading a better life as a father should. Ill have my day for my past atrocities. I'm just glad I got it right first.

I didn't mean to ruffle feathers, for that I apologize. At least its out there now that I'm a follower of Christ.  I have no regrets.  :salute

The real reason for all of this is the fact that parenting has become so bad in the last 30 years.  Sex on TV is not the reason....frankly there isn't enough of that.  Why do people equate sex with evil?

It's not TV it's the Video games that allow you to shoot at other players and get rewarded for killing them. Some sickos like to see their prey trying to escape only to be turned into a flaming ball of debris. They will shoot people in the back as they are running for safety, drop bombs on the poor saps in their little motor vehicles, and destroy whole cities. What kinds of monsters are we creating? :bolt:

As long as you have family and love you'll never get depressed. Or rarely.

If you dont have it then get it. If booze or drugs is getting in the way of it then get help. Dont feel embarrassed, that Demon lies in all of us.

Ive been wearing some kind of uniform since 1977. I have seen, and been involved in, some truly horrible things. I dont tell stories cause I dont want to think about them. And I believe the goodness in people far outweigh them. I have one story I do like to tell tho.

We were traveling in S/E Martial Law Turkey back in '79. We stopped at a cafe for lunch and were ignored for about 20 mins. We got up to leave cause it was obvious they didnt want Americans there, most of all those with military hair cuts. A poor Turkish/Muslim family motioned for us to sit back down. Their lunch had just arrived and they picked it all up and put it on our table for us to eat. They paid for it, refused our offer to pay them back, and left after never eating anything. They went hungry because they were ashamed "guests" were treated like that. We ate and as we were leaving many of the patrons got up and shook our hands welcoming us to their village.

I wish I could meet that family again so I can tell them what their act of kindness meant to me in my life. I wonder if they know?

And since then I have tried to live as they did. Be it helping a stranger change a tire or crawling under a fire to save a child. We are all connected in this life, either by acts of selfishness or brutality or by acts of selflessness and kindness. Pick the latter and I bet your not often depressed.

At times like these, a little Marcus Aurelius is in order. I maintain one of his quotes as a personal motto, but I heard this one below and only later found it was by Aurelius:

Be like a rocky promontory upon which the waves are continually crashing.

I searched it up because I get a lot of noise coming in as I pursue my purpose. But I maintain my purpose, despite the noise. Clarity around this purpose I call a gift - and so I don't let the noise get in the way. Let the waves break.

Yes, there are crazy people out there, but they're collateral to my purpose, so I neither seek them nor avoid them. Happily, it is rare for me to see them at all. This pursuit seems to keep me out of trouble.

Lately, I've found myself distracted. I have an urge to develop a new type of pie for the good folks of Northern England, but then, usually after a spasm or two and a clean-up, this urge seems to pass. THen  I go and fly a Yak-9T and drink until I pass out face down in a pile of my own sick.

Kidding, of course... I never fly the Yak-9T.

nope

Oh Snailman, who art in Germany, venerated be thy name. Thy charts are accurate, thy numbers be representative of AH and they are on the boards. Read us this darbar, their likely targets, and plot the intercept that we might shoot down those who trespass against us. Lead us by your example, and deliver us pie charts. Amen.

Pick the latter and I bet your not often depressed.

very nice story!

"To be is to be perceived. And so to know thyself is only possible through the eyes of the other. The nature of our immortal lives is in the consequences of our words and deeds, that go on and are pushing themselves throughout all time. Our lives are not our own, from womb to tomb, we are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future."

nope

the old Hebrew laws...yup...but I am a follower of the Messiah....and he explicitly says we only follow the ten commandments.... we live by faith not laws.

As far as I am concerned the bibble contains little ambiguity regarding this. Sure it was exodus or some such other nonsense that expressly forbids it :headscratch:

Shhh. It's not his fault. Think old money Englischer... uh-huh... He looks up the family tree and sees the Pennsylvania turnpike. This may be better than looking up the family tree and getting hit with gorilla dookie but it still carries some freight that must be painfully obvious at this juncture.

The Lord Jesus only gives us what we can handle.

Some of us are real bad asses.
